SEO Book – Offers a keyword density checker to assess the keyword density on your website. If you over-optimize your website for a specific keyword, you could receive a penalty from the search engines.

How To Implement Online Video SEO

Welcome to the online video masterclass. Today we”ll be looking at a hot video topic; implementing video SEO.

1. Use Keyword Specific Titles:

Just like if you were creating a landing page for a website or writing an article, your videos need to have clear and specific titles. Having your content correctly titled will make the search engine Gods smile fondly upon it. The last thing you want is to create content that can’t be found because of a poor title. Every online video you upload needs to be titled appropriately to give it a strong chance of popping up in both Google and YouTube Page 1 searches.

2. Optimize Your Online Video Descriptions:

Descriptions are an essential piece of the video SEO puzzle that must be optimized. Always put your website URL on the first line of your videos descriptions. This will help to improve conversion rates and give your website a little bit of link juice. Use all the text space available in your descriptions to tie in your keywords and phrases to your videos content. By doing so, you can make your online videos as search friendly as possible.

3. Use Keywords As Tags:

Given YouTube is the number two search engine and owned by Google you want to be on as good terms with it as you can. Tags are one way to do so. Tagging your videos with your keywords and words relevant to your niche will help to link your online video to other videos in the same field, which will increase its chances of being seen. Beware though, YouTube is pretty strict on Tags, try to switch them up from video to video and only use a few of them at a time in order to avoid the Spambots.

4. Use Closed Captions:

Transcripts and Closed Captions are very unused in online video and need to be optimized. Closed Captions and Transcripts in practice function as subtitles for any users with hearing impairments. However, in online marketing terms they provide great SEO benefit. Google and YouTube search through the text in these Transcripts allowing you to optimize them for your keywords and phrases. This will help your content appear higher in the search results.

5. Generate Social Activity:

Whether your hosting your video on Vimeo or YouTube you will have a user account and so will the majority of the audiences visiting the site. Generating activity amongst users on your online video content will help to boost your favour with the search engines. In pretty much every social media the users with the most views, friends, subscribers, likes, comments etc are always going to be top contenders in search results and the same principle goes for the activity on your online videos.

6. Refresh Your Video Content:

Update your old content regularly. By keeping your content updated you’ll be seen far more favourably in the eyes of the online video search engines. This in turn will help you get your content more views and let it stand a better chance at generating a better conversion rate as a result.

7. Use Your Channel To Its Full Potential:

If you’re on a site like YouTube you have a whole Channel at your disposal, not just your video. You can brand your Channel, include your URL, keywords, key phrases, provide calls to action and prompt connections to your social medias. Having a well branded Channel will work in the same way as your website, making your content seem more credible and trustworthy, which will help to generate conversion, content shares and more online activity.

8. Share & Connect On Social Media:

Video sharing sites are fantastically compatible with social media sites. They offer great ways of sharing content to wider audiences and help to promote not only your online video, but interaction with it. Ensure you’re videos are being shared on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Blogs and Tumblr. Google search now scans such sites for links and content giving your online videos a higher chance of appearing on Page 1 in the search results.

9. Use Sitemaps:

A sitemap is the best way of letting Google know where your online video content is. If you’re using embedded video from Bitsontherun, Brightcove or a Vimeo or YouTube video you’ll need to include a sitemap. It’s a common misconception that YouTube videos are automatically sitemapped to Google in their embed code. Sitemaps are a great SEO boost if you’re not using video sharing sites and merely want to use the content on your landing pages for your website visitors to see.

10. Use All Video Sharing Sites:

Everyone has a favourite video sharing site for watching or uploading content. YouTube is an obvious choice due to its sheer popularity, but getting your content, keywords and URL on all video sharing sites can be a great SEO boost. Check out underrated sharing sites like Daily Motion and Viddler and make sure you follow all the rules of the above on every one of your online videos. A website you can get SEO value from and generate traffic from is never a prospect to turn your nose up at.

Are Users Happy with Their Google Search Results with Google+ Integration?

In January of 2012, Google announced Search Plus Your World, a major search enhancement that integrates activity from Google+ into the search results. So for example, when logged into the social network, if you type “skiing” into the field, you may see the photos you recently uploaded of yourself and friends from last year’s ski trip. While some users are finding the feature to be incredibly useful, others find it unnecessary and intrusive. Needless to say, the reception of Google+ integration in the search results has been a mixed bag of sorts.

Another Controversial Move By Google

No matter the opinion of individual users, most will at least agree that Google Plus Your World is nothing short of impressive. In the past, Google has tried to index content from its two main rivals in the social space, Facebook and Twitter, but things just didn’t work out. While both have refused to provide access to fully crawl their sites, Twitter has been the most cordial. In fact, it wasn’t long ago that we were seeing updates from the microblogging service being displayed in Google’s real-time search section. That stopped in the summer of 2011 when the two sides failed to renew their agreement.

Seeing how ugly things turned out, it was not all that surprising when Twitter came out and voiced its displeasure about Google integrating Google+ activity in the search results. In a statement made not too long after the launch of Search Plus Your World, a representative from Twitter said the update would make it harder for users to find information in the listings. This statement was presumably made because the enhancement ranks the activity from Google+ above the standard results. The other part of it relates to Twitter’s content specifically being pushed further down the page. Google didn’t seem very broken up about this as it replied by basically saying Twitter only had itself to blame.

Impact on SEO

Google’s decision to complement the search results with content from Google+ has some pretty big implications, especially from an SEO perspective. Initially, some were even concerned that Search Plus Your World could potentially spell the end of SEO. Search engine optimization will continue to be important as long as people rely on search engines to find content on the web, but the enhancement did cause some marketers to rethink their strategy. With the update in effect, more brands have come to realize that being active on Google+ could be vital to increasing their search visibility.

Due to all the fuss that has been made over Google’s Search Plus Your World, it is easy to lose sight of one of the most important components of the update, which in this case, refers to it being an optional feature. If a user wants to receive personalized results fueled by Google+, they can turn the feature on, and easily turn it off whenever they have a change of heart. This control alone probably made a lot of users happy.

Don’t Forget the On-Page SEO Factors!

Most website owners are so worried about the off-page search engine optimization (SEO) factors such as building links and creating a great social media presence that they forget about doing the right things on their actual site. Yes, backlinks and a following are extremely important but they won’t mean much if your site isn’t up to par.

Here are some on-page SEO strategies that you should implement on your website…

Domain – With enough work you could technically get any domain ranked highly for any keyword, but you can make it much easier on yourself by choosing the right domain from the start. Getting an exact match domain (EMD) can often be incredibly helpful in ranking your site at the top of search engines. Often times EMD’s will make it to the top 10, or even #1, based on that alone.

The problem is that in most niches all the best exact match domains will already be taken, so it’s not always possible to get one. However, you should at least get one with your main keywords in it. Just add an extra letter or word at the end, or whatever fits well. Having your keywords in the domain can be very helpful for search engine rankings.

Meta Tags – Your title tag and description tag are extremely important SEO factors. Your title tag should contain your main keywords without many extra filler words, but also don’t stuff it so full that it looks ridiculous. Keep the title to around 65 characters and that includes spaces. That’s about what Google shows in the search results so you want to keep it around there.

The description tag should also contain some of your main keywords but all tell a little more about what visitors can expect from your site. This should be kept to around 150 characters (including spaces) so it has to be a quick summary. Again don’t stuff it full of keywords or it could do more harm than good. Just put them in there as naturally as possible so it still reads well and looks good.

Great Content – Your site is worthless without content and in order for it to be a site that gets natural backlinks, high rankings, and so much more, the content must be very high quality. You will often hear internet marketer’s use the line, “Content is king” and there’s a reason for that saying. This is even more true now because there was a recent update at Google that has made really good original content even more important than ever.

Also, inside your content needs to be your keywords. You should include them wherever they fit in a natural way with around 3% density or so. That means for every 100 words on your page about three of them are keywords that you are trying to rank for. Don’t try to stuff them anywhere and everywhere just for the sake of getting them in there. That tactic used to work but it stopped working years ago. Doing that can actually hurt more than it helps.

Site Map – Having a sitemap is a great way to link all the pages of your site together easily and efficiently. Doing that is important for the search engines so they can find all of your content and rank it accordingly. And it also helps human visitors navigate your site much more easily if needed.

That’s pretty much it. Of course, there are many other things than can be included or tweaked for a maximum SEO score. But if you do the things listed above correctly on your site, you will already be far ahead of most sites. Then, you can start concentrating much more on the off-page strategies.

Main Street Marketing Machines Review

Jill here. Obviously, George and I haven’t had time to review the entire Main Street Marketing Machines program yet because it’s HUGE! But we got an email that they’re closing the doors Friday at midnight (Pacific), so we wanted to update you on what we’ve looked at so far so that you can make a decision if you’re on the fence. Look, I like to procrastinate as much as the next person, but do not wait until the last minute if you really want to get in on this and don’t want to wait months and months until it opens again. You’ll kick yourself if you forget and don’t get signed up.

This is what we’ve discovered so far. No offense to Local Business Money Machine, which has been a complete blessing this past year and really helped us get off the ground and headed in the right direction, but this is a MUCH better program. Of course, it’s about three times as expensive, so that’s something you’ll need to take into consideration. But, especially if you’re a “newbie”, this program breaks everything down into very manageable chunks. And the videos are incredibly professional (what else would you expect from the guys at Traffic Geyser) and even entertaining.

In fact, this program is broken down so well, that I am going to try my hand at some of the technical parts of it. I’m going to create a landing page myself and see whether someone who’s technically capable but completely unpracticed can do this. I won’t get it done in time to tell you the results before the program closes, but the fact that I’m willing to even TRY is a testimony to this program. Keep in mind that when I graduated from high school, I asked that my parents give me a typewriter instead of a computer, and I usually tell people that “I eat breakfast and talk to people, and George does all the work.” Perhaps I’ll no longer be able to say that šŸ™‚

What else have we discovered? We would have paid as much for the level of Traffic Geyser membership included as we paid for the entire Main Street Marketing program. So, even if you’re thinking about trying out Traffic Geyser, go this route instead. You’ll get not only the great video marketing training that Traffic Geyser includes but marketing materials for your new business; over 40 hours of video training by everyone from Mainstreet Marketing success stories (they really do tell you EXACTLY what they did to be successful, even role playing some of the client approach strategies they use) to Bill Glazer; planners; free report templates; fill in the blanks autoresponders… I really could go on and on.

Is this program for everyone? I would still say “no”. There are plenty of people who won’t implement the steps and won’t follow the program. If this is you (you know who you are), don’t buy this program. If you don’t like interacting with people, and you’re not willing to take on a partner who can handle the client interactions, this probably isn’t the program for you. I think, however, that it is appropriate for people with varying skill levels when it comes to internet marketing. You do need some degree of comfort with technology, in general. But if you’ve ever blogged at all or are comfortable with Facebook, then you should do fine.

Like Local Business Money machine, you’ll need some time to set aside for this. The Traffic Geyser trainings are pretty quick and easy. There are eight lessons in the Express Lane training. The longest lesson I’ve seen so far is about 15 minutes. Then there are assignments that go along with those, which I think will take a minimum of 30 minutes to a couple of hours. So, you’ll need around 15-20 hours, probably to get through those trainings. And then, of course, you’ll need to go through the Main Street Marketing steps. Plus, making the pages and acquiring your clients. In other words, don’t think you’re going to buy this and five minutes later start depositing checks in your bank account. But, really, if any of you HAVE discovered a system that works that way, you should contact George about writing for this blog because clearly you’ve found a way to make money grown on trees and a quick way to harvest it.

I do think that you should be able to get through enough training and start implementing the program and figure out whether it works within your 30 day trial. That is, of course, if you don’t wait until day 25 to get started. And that’s my recommendation to you. If you’re interested, buy the program. Work the program for the next 30 days (no excuses— just get busy). If you realize it’s not for you, there’s no way you’re going to do it, you haven’t even opened the files— for crying out loud, return the program! It’s risk free if you’ll just take that step if you aren’t using it.

So, in summary, are we abandoning Local Business Money Machine and switching to Main Street Marketing? No. We’ll do a hybrid of the two for our business model because we’re already making money with Local Business Money Machine. There is a lot of overlap in these two programs, as they both target Local Search marketing opportunities. However, there are some areas that are mentioned in less detail in Local Business Money Machine that we haven’t really pursued as much as we could have (including doing more direct marketing and, of course, video marketing). These are the areas where we’ll be using Main Street Marketing Machines. Do I think you can use Main Street Marketing Machines without Local Business Money Machine? Absolutely!! It’s a completely different model and will stand on it’s own with no problem.

So, take some time to think about it. Write down the pros and cons, where you want to be a year from now and whether your current path is going to get you there. Then, if you think this is a good match for you, buy it! I think you’ll be glad you did.

Life has a funny way of forcing your hand. I’ve been playing around at this online thing for several years now and have made some decent money at it, but never really committed to it.
