Inside Look At Traffic Secrets 2.0

July 12, 2008

I just finished watching the third and final Traffic Secrets 2.0 video and it was VERY interesting. Not only does John give some great advice at the beginning of the video, but at the end of this new video John Reese reveals some great news about the price of his Traffic Secrets 2.0 course.

He also reveals (for the first time) details about why this ‘course’ isn’t simply a course like most have seen before.

You’ll have to watch the video to see how John is ‘raising the bar’ when it comes to Internet Marketing educational products. I was very happy to see what he is NOT doing with this release.

Why Doesn’t Your Traffic Convert Into Money?

July 8, 2008

Do you ever wonder why it is that you have 500 or 1000, or even 5000 subscribers to your RSS feed and thousands of visitors per month… yet you barely make any money from your blog, if any at all?

The reason is simple…

You have the wrong kind of traffic coming to your blog (or website)!

Most make money online bloggers write post after post aimed at other bloggers and internet marketers, and they try to get as many readers as possible through social websites and other things like that. However, this is not a very good strategy if you really want to make money from your blog.

The people you are targeting with your blog posts are the exact same people who are doing the same things you are trying to make money online and they are definitely not the ones who are going to click on your ads or buy your recommended products. They know what Adsense ads are and they are probably promoting the same products you are on their blogs. So why would they take any action that will make you money? They won’t!

If you really want to make money online then most of your traffic needs to come from search engines because the average person doing a search won’t have a clue what Adsense is so they will gladly click on your ads. They also don’t know what an affiliate link is so they will buy products through your affiliate link if it’s going to help them make money online.

So what do you need to do?

Stop wasting all your time getting traffic through social sites and writing your posts aimed at other bloggers in the same niche as you!

You need to start getting keyword rich inbound links with the sole intent of ranking highly on the search engines (specifically Google) so you can start getting traffic from searches. Let’s say, for instance that you want to rank highly for “how to make money online” then you need to start acquiring backlinks with that as the link text and variations of it.

Want to know what kinds of inbound links you should be getting to maximize your search engine rankings? Read my recent post on finding the perfect backlink. And read Ryan’s recent post on the subject: What Links Can You Point at Your Web Site?

You should also do some keyword research on all the various searches related to your niche and start writing some posts about the different topics that are being searched so you can get rankings for lots of long-tail keywords. The traffic you get from those posts will start adding up and can turn into a lot of visitors and a lot of money!

Getting traffic that actually makes you money isn’t rocket science, it’s really quite easy. All it takes is the discipline on your part to build backlinks and write specific keyword rich posts.

What Links Can You Point at Your Web Site?

June 29, 2008

I mentioned this before, but I’ll remind you of it again. I don’t link trade to get backlinks. Yes, every so often, someone asks to link trade with me, and I put them in my blogroll. But as a matter of course, I don’t actively pursue it. It’s too much work for a type of link search engines don’t respect all that much anymore.

However, I still have to have a linking theory, and it’s not magic or wishful thinking. It’s just that I trade something besides a reciprocal link to get a link pointed at my site. This sort of arrangement holds the potential of giving me more high-quality or targeted backlinks with less work.

So then, what links can you point at your web site that doesn’t require a link trade to get? Here’s a list of the common, and not quite so obvious, things you could do.

  • Articles: Put a resource box at the bottom of a good article, then let anyone use it. This is a long-standing ‘trade content for backlinks’ tactic.

  • Viral Reports: I’ve written, and put up for distribution, three viral reports as of this posting with links pointing at all sorts of things that are useful to me. Others can take those reports, rebrand them with their affiliate links, then use them as bonuses for their own purposes. In the process, they use their distribution power to put my links in front of people I might not otherwise reach. This is the larger-scale version of the article marketing theory, and another thing that’s been in use for some time.

  • Videos: Ever heard of YouTube? Know what happens if you produce a video and it goes viral? Any link you happen to display in that video could be seen by millions. Video marketing is becoming a trend in Internet marketing lately, and if you know how to make videos, it’s time to looked into making one that can work for you.

  • WordPress Templates: Ever programmed one of these from scratch? You could make one for anyone’s use, and include your link in the footer.

  • Put them in your products: If you sell something to someone, why stop there? If that product is related to some other site you have, why not mention it? Information products are especially useful in this regard, and can include links pointed at affiliate programs or your other sites.

  • Offline methods: Put your site names on business cards, letterhead, and other offline products if you have offline businesses. If you’re printing them anyway, put that expense to more use by promoting your sites too.

Do you have your own favorite backlinking method? Feel free to comment.

Type Your Way to Worthwhile Backlinks

May 30, 2008

The SEO strategy I intend to use with my new sales letter page is noteworthy in one big way. I have no intention whatsoever to engage in any link trading to build my link popularity. There are no reciprocal linking pages, and I’m not sending out requests every day to other web masters. Frankly, it’s just too much effort for me.

I don’t miss it. I did link trading through an automatic service on my last sites, and it didn’t amount to much of anything. The search engines don’t give reciprocal links all that much weight anymore, and no traffic ever came from more than one or two of them anyway. So the results really weren’t worth the trouble.

This isn’t to say you shouldn’t build links, because I have every intention of doing so, just like you. You still need them just as much today as you ever did. But what you need are one-way links that don’t require you to reciprocate, and are thus worth more in the eyes of a search engine.

If you want these kinds of links, and you do, you’ll have to find something else to trade for them. With affiliate programs, for example, you trade commissions for someone putting a one-way link to your site in front of interested people. But a classical, inexpensive, and worthwhile tactic is to trade content for them.

This is called article marketing, and it’s been around for a while. Blogs, ezines, and web sites are always looking for content, and you could provide it for them. You write an article in your niche, polish it until it’s desirable for someone else to publish, then put it on a free article site or pay an article announcer to mass broadcast it. Your payment is called a resource box, which is a short blurb about you, a one-way link to your site, and a reason why someone might want to visit it.

This will give you those highly desirable one-way links you want. Plus, articles do all sorts of other things on top of that.

  • When you write an article relevant to the topic of your site, it helps pre-qualify the traffic going to your site, giving you far more targeted traffic. That helps the bottom line of getting someone to your site, such as conversions, sign-ups, additional RSS syndication, or whatever your desired result happens to be.

  • Demonstrating your aptitude by giving away small but useful bits of information in an article helps increase your credibility in your niche.

  • Articles and their attached links are viral. The same article could be posted on a growing number sites or blogs over time, increasing your link popularity without any effort on your part across months or even years.

  • If your article is used in an ezine publication, you could see a traffic spike.

For some added incentive to get people to use them, you can put an article or two in your affiliate areas and tell your affiliates they can rebrand the resource boxes with their affiliate links. This is the small-scale version of the viral, rebrandable report theory.

I highly recommend article marketing to anyone who wants to create one-way links, link popularity, and the occasional traffic spike to their web sites. Once you get good at it, you can simply type your way to worthwhile backlinks. It’s a far better method than wasting effort on near-useless reciprocal link trades, or spending money buying traffic from paid sources.

Review Of The SEO Book Training Program

May 14, 2008

What do I think about Aaron Wall’s SEO Book?

I have been meaning to review Aaron Wall’s SEO book ever since I interviewed Aaron last year. I am finally getting around to it.

First of all I want to say it’s REALLY, REALLY loaded with information! His ebook had over 300 pages and his training program has more information than his ebook ever had.

The SEO Book training program covers A LOT more than just Search Engine Optimization. In addition to SEO, the SEO Book covers:

  • Copywriting

  • Social Marketing

  • Website Usability

  • Website Monetization

  • Blogging

  • and more!

Aaron uses a combination of articles and videos to teach you how to rank high in the Search engines. He also teaches you just about everything imaginable about marketing a product or service.

Not only that, but the SEO Book has a private online community where you can ask and answer questions of both Aaron and other members of his program. The community really blew me away. I have been a member of many paid online communities and none of them were as good as the one that Aaron runs. The most amazing thing to me about the community is how active Aaron is in it. The last time I checked Aaron Wall had 2,799 posts (16.26 posts per day). If you want to get direct advice from Aaron then you should sign up soon, because I just don’t see how Aaron can continue to be so active on his forum and continue to take on new members. It doesn’t seem like a very scalable business model to me.

Anyway, if you are new to online marketing or you want a great place to learn about online marketing (especially SEO) then I recommend that you click here to join the SEO Book Training Program. It is one of the best deals on the Internet for beginners to learn how to make money online.

Maximising Your SERPS Listing

April 28, 2008

Guest post by Jonathan Dawkins

Search Engine Results Pages are a critical means of ensuring more visitor traffic to your website or blog and yet they are often one of the main areas that are badly neglected by site owners. There are thousands of great articles on link building strategies, how to boost your page rank, blogging for links and the latest paid advertising approaches to get your site seen by a wider online audience, and whilst this is excellent and very valuable there is little point if your site fails to sell itself in Search Engine Results Pages once you break into the top 10.

Let me highlight my point with an example. Below are two descriptions that could be displayed in SERPS for a search on the phrase “Make Money Online.”

Description 1

Make money online with proven techniques from Internet marketing experts. Learn how to make big money online with integrity.”

Description 2

“People enjoy it when they have the opportunity to use the internet for many different purposes including making money online, I’ve often thought that when individuals…” It is pretty obvious that the first makes full use of the description Meta tag to actively promote its business whilst the second has neglected this aspect and is vague and uninviting. It is important to remember that if you don’t insert a description for your page, Google will automatically generate one for you, but this is normally poorly organised and disjointed and mostly likely accounts for description two above. The question you have to ask yourself is who is the best person to sell your site YOU or a third party?

So how can you make your site more attractive in SERPS? This advice is mainly directed towards the Google search engine which is by far the best on the internet, but the general rules apply to other directories like Yahoo and MSN

1. View SERPS As A Sales Directory.

Too often Search Engine Results Pages are viewed by online users as information pages, when in reality they are not; they are a global sales directory. If you feel uncomfortable with writing good sales copy then delegate this to someone who can, or employ a professional copyrighter to create some short, catchy tags. Ideally you need to keep your site description to around 24 words in length as this is the approximately the maximum amount displayed in SERPS.

2. Take Your Time

Google is very upfront about its use of site description tags. It makes it clear that it DOES NOT, use the description tag to index pages in Google, but some people have interpreted this as meaning that the description tag is not important. Exactly the opposite is true. To use an analogy, description tags provide the “shop window” for your site. If your shop window looks cluttered, unorganised and unattractive, who will want to visit your site even if you have the best online content inside? So take your time and ensure that each web page is optimised for that specific tag.

3. Avoid Duplicate Description Tags

Each page description should reflect what is on that page. You should never use generic description tags for the whole of your site. Think about it, if you have a page of content about Making Money through paid surveys, what has that got in common with another page about eBay drop shipping? Tailor your page descriptions to each page, that way online visitors get the most relevant content and are more likely to click through to your site.

4. Repeat Keywords

If you have a keyword and/ or phrase for your page, then you should seek to include it at least twice in your short description. This is because when an internet user conducts a search, Google automatically highlights the keywords in bold in the results page to make them stand out. The more times your keyword is repeated the more it will stand out to an online user as a suitable page.

So we could make description 1 that we referred to early even better in the following way;

Example: With one keyword in description meta tag;

Make money online with proven techniques from Internet marketing experts. ”

With two keywords in description meta tag; Make money online with proven techniques from Internet marketing experts. Learn how to make big money online with integrity.”

With three keywords in description meta tag;

“Want to make money online? Make money online with proven expert techniques and learn how to make big money online with integrity.”

Now you may feel that using three keywords is excessive and that would be understandable. However, can you see just how the bold keywords will make this description stand out in Google Search Engine Results Pages. Remember that your short description tag is not trying to communicate everything about your site, it’s just there to entice online visitors and three keywords makes it more eye catching and gives the perception that your site has more relevant content. In addition we’ve added a short question right at the start to hook visitors and encourage them to read more.

5. Combine With A Good Title Meta Tag.

If you want your site description to really stand out in SERPS, ensure that you treat your title tag in the same way, as this will make your search results even more tempting to potential visitors;

For example:

Make Money Online – Make Money Online With Integrity

“Want to make money online? Make money online with proven expert techniques and learn how to make big money online with integrity.”

The combination of the use of keywords in the title tag and repeated three times in the description meta tag make this site stand out and is a powerful marketing tool for your website or blog.

Summary
So how about spending a few hours doing some housekeeping this week on your site and ensuring that you make maximum use of your description meta tag. My experience is that it has increased visitor traffic to my site by between 15% within 1 week of doing this. Let me know how it works for you and if you notice a difference by leaving a comment on this post.

Finally, a big thanks to George for letting me use his meta tag description for this blog as an example for illustrative purposes.

Get Top Search Engine Rankings and Make Money Online

March 25, 2008

If you want to make money online then one of your best chances for doing that is to build a website or blog and get it ranked at the top of the search engines. This will bring in a lot of traffic and it will be very targeted because they will be actively searching for what you have to offer. Plus, when you are ranked highly your site will continue to get traffic day after day with no extra effort on your part. That is a huge advantage over other forms of marketing and advertising.

There are a lot of factors that go into gaining top search engine rankings but one of the biggest factors is inbound links. Getting links from other sites pointing to your site will increase your rankings better than any other search engine optimization technique. So, in this post, I am going to discuss some of the best ways to get inbound links.

Article Submissions – One of the most popular and most effective ways to get inbound links to your website, writing and submitting articles has been proven to work for years. There are plenty of sites that accept article submissions and they are just waiting for you to submit your articles.

All you have to do is write articles on topics related to your website with a link to your site in the resource box at the bottom, and submit them to article directories and other sites that accept articles. You will get inbound links from those sites and from any others that find your articles and republish them on their sites and blogs.

Guest Blogging – This has become very popular recently and continues to gain even more popularity among bloggers and website owners. You write up a post for someone else’s blog in the same niche as yours and add a link to your site at the bottom. In fact, you are reading a guest post right now. I am a guest author on this blog and you will see at the end there is a link to my website.

Blog Comments – Another good method for getting inbound links that has gained a lot of popularity in recent years. It’s very simple, all you have to do is go to blogs and comment on posts. There is usually a spot for you to put a link when you comment. Most blogs these days do not follow links in comments so you won’t gain anything from commenting on them. However, there are still a lot that do follow comment links and those are the ones you want to comment on.

The D-List is a great place to find blogs that do follow. Remember to actually read the posts and provide useful comments. If you don’t your comments will get deleted and you will become known as a comment spammer. That will definitely not help you!

Link Exchanges – Although not nearly as effective as they used to be, link exchanges can still be a great way to get inbound links and a boost in the search engines. There have been countless articles written about link exchanges so I am not going to get too in-depth here, but basically you find quality sites related to yours and ask them if they will link to your site and you will give them a link from your site in exchange.

Memes – These come in all kinds of different forms depending on who started it and what the purpose of the meme is. But a typical meme is a list of questions that you answer and post on your blog/website. Then someone else reads it and continues it on by posting in on their blog/site. Memes are viral in nature and are meant to spread easily. Again, it depends on the meme but most of the time you link back to the site you found it on. So all you have to do is start your own meme and you could get quite a few backlinks from it.

Link Bait – Just as the title suggests, this is something you do for the sole purpose of getting a lot of links very quickly. Running a contest where the participants get entries for linking to your site is a great example of link bait. Another good example is writing a highly controversial post on a hot topic that you know will get a lot of exposure and people will naturally link to it.

These are all very good methods for getting inbound links for your website or blog and gaining top search engine rankings. They are certainly not the only ways to get links but they are some of the most popular and best ways. Continually doing the things above will definitely get you a lot of inbound links and increase your search engine rankings.

One final thing to remember about getting inbound links is to put the keywords you want to rank for as the anchor text on your links anytime you have the choice. This will greatly increase the keyword authority for your website and will help it outrank other sites for those keywords.

Now, get out there and start building up your inbound links so you can get top search engine rankings and make money online!

SEO Training Program From Aaron Wall

February 22, 2008

I have been ill all week with the creeping crud, but one thing I did want to mention before the weekend is that Aaron Wall of the SEO Book has changed his business model and is now selling a monthly membership for access to his SEO knowledge.

I was half way through writing a review of the SEO Book when Aaron sent the notice about this change. Given how good Aaron’s book is, I am sure that membership in The SEO Book Training Program will be well worthwhile. I plan on signing up for it and doing a review of it sometime in the next few months. In the meantime, you can click here to go check out The SEO Book Training Program for yourself.
