To Start A Successful Online Business Your Mind Has To Change First

October 29, 2009

Before you can start an online business, your mind has to change.

I don’t mean “change your mind”. I mean your mind has to change. Online business as a freelance entrepreneur is an example of thinking outside the box. Your personal “box” may take the form of…

  • “I can’t make money in any way except a job.”

  • “I’ve never tried anything like this before.”

  • “I don’t know what I’m doing.”

  • “This is a dumb idea.”

Maybe one or more of these apply to you, and these sorts of thoughts have to go. But before I repeat the cliche’ of “thinking outside the box”, how about a real-life example?

For a few months now, I’d been sick of turning on my television set with nothing ever being on, especially given what I paid for cable. Several hundred channels of programming, and it was all miserable. So, I did something that most people wouldn’t even consider: I canceled cable without replacing it. I no longer receive television of any sort.

Now, television tends to be a household staple even if it’s pointless. So this would be my own personal example of “thinking outside the box”. I’m saving a boatload of money, and it’s not as though I’m without distraction or entertainment with cable gone. In other words, net gain for me.

It was a benefit to me to do something most people would not consider, or at least not consider seriously. Online business is the same way. It’s a world of opportunity waiting that most would not even give thought, but it could wind up benefiting you greatly. This is what I mean when I say “First, your mind has to change”. If you don’t seriously believe you can make money online, you’re not going to get anywhere attempting it.

3 Things You Must Know To Be Successful Online

October 26, 2009

We’re all looking for the best, most effective way to make more money, get more customers, or even gain a following on Twitter or Facebook. With the advent of all this technology, and the amazing opportunity we have online, there’s always some underlying aspects that allow us to truly get where we want to go.

What I’ve down is outlined below some quick yet simple things that you can do to become more successful in your daily online efforts. Now, I’m not saying these are easy, in fact anything you do online or offline for that matter, is going to take some effort.

So with knowing that, let’s get to the 3 things that you must know to be successful online…

#1: Just Be You

This is a very big mistake I see, especially in the online world. People pretend they’re someone who they’re not and expect to make all this money and be uberly successful. It doesn’t work that way…

Sometimes it leads to people claiming “guru” or “expert” status, claiming that you know more and do better than you actually do, and in some unfortunate cases, posing as a famous internet marketer or business person and trying to cash in on their credibility.

Look: You may not be the greatest, most knowledgeable, absolutely amazing person in the world and none of that matters. People want to see you and your personality. Keep learning and educating yourself while taking consistent action, what REALLY gets you results, and never stray from who you really are, deep down inside, past all the materialistic things.

Others will appreciate that and it will allow them to create a stronger bond with you, and a much deeper relationship if you just be you.

#2: Give Great Value Or Go On Home

By value, I mean content. Chances are you may have a blog and if you don’t, get one as soon as possible. Blogs are really an extension of who we are and what we’re all about. We live in a society where people want information and it’s this information that is at the premier front of the gate. When people see how valuable something is, it grabs their attention. When they are attentive, they build an interest and a desire which leads to subscribers, followers, or even customers.

The great part is, you don’t even have to setup an extravagant blog that’s totally customized. As long as the content is good, you’re already making some significant leaps in your day-to-day online business. As well, if you have other websites, focus on giving out free ebooks, reports, case studies, etc.

Moving the freeline as some like to call it, has been proven highly effective for quite some time now. People respond well to it and it’s a great way to build some serious and massive value that shows others a little about who you are. Here’s the kicker…

When people see how valuable your FREE content is, they think to themselves, “Wow! If his/her free is this good, I can’t imagine how good their products or services are!”.

And guess what happens when they find out that you’re selling something or providing a service? They remember how much value you gave them beforehand so they’re influenced to snatch up your product or get your service.

#3: Content Is King But Relationships Are Queen

In this space, you always hear about how content is king. For starters, it is extremely important to your overall success, but it’s not all. Many times I see aspiring business owners throw up some sites, push out a bunch of content, and then wonder why no one is listening. It’s because A) They haven’t talked to enough people or B) They haven’t talked with enough people.

Relationships are very important to your overall success. To be honest, I wouldn’t go so far to say that it’s one of the most important things to your success, aside from having and giving value. With the creation of social media and sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube, it’s easier than ever to build relationships with people.

You should be building some sort of relationships through your sites or blogs, and by engaging and interacting with others using social media, you take relationship building to a whole other level.

Stay tuned for the next post where I dive into where we left off and talk about using social media in the most effective way possible.

Sneak Peak At Our Houston Based Web Marketing Company

June 1, 2009

Life has a funny way of forcing your hand. I’ve been playing around at this online thing for several years now and have made some decent money at it, but never really committed to it. I’ve talked about doing it full time. I’ve dreamed about doing it full time. But I haven’t been DOING it full time. Then a month ago I was laid off from my job as a JAVA developer. I spent some time putting together a resume and talking to recruiters before realizing I didn’t really want another job working for someone else. I wanted to work for myself. Full time.

So, after a series of events unfolded (which could be the focus of a later post), my wife and I decided to take the plunge and start our own business. So, I am very pleased to introduce MantyWeb Designs (www.mantywebdesigns.com), a full service web promotion and web design company. We will be specializing in helping local businesses with underperforming websites turn their websites into a valuable part of their marketing plan. I’ll be focusing on helping people increase traffic and improving conversion rates. My wife will be concentrating on sales.

While we are based in Houston, we’re available to help people all over the U.S. So, if you’re in need of assistance, contact me. You can leave all well wishes in the comment section.

Free Formula 5 MBA In A Box – My Quick Summary

January 14, 2009

The other day I finished reading Stompernet’s free report called “MBA In A Box”.

Here is my quick summary of what is covered in MBA In A Box:

1. Raise the price of your product by 15 percent.

2. Increase the perceived value of your product.

3. Sell more to your existing customers.

4. Businesses fail because:
    A. Lack of vision.
    B. Lack of strategy to carry out vision.
    C. Lack of a system for marketing and sales.
    D. Lack of a system to monetize clients.
    E. Trying to do too many things (no systems to get things done).

5. Businesses succeed when:
    A. They have a strong value proposition.
    B. Continual stream of leads.
    C. Consistently and cost effectively convert leads to customers.
    D. Have a system to monetize customers.
    E. Operate efficiently.

6. Compound all five parts of the formula together to create a huge increase in profits.

I know that Formula 5 is based on solid business success principles because my business mentors have taught me the same strategies discussed in this report (and I teach them as well).

The full report goes into more detail about implementing Formula 5 strategies, but I thought a good summary would help you know what to expect when you check it out for yourself.

So, who should read the free Formula Five MBA In A Box report?

The report is best suited for online entrepreneurs who sell products and services. It’s not really useful for people who make their living (or intend to make their living) from affiliate marketing. It’s also not something that I would generally recommend to people who are absolutely new to Internet marketing (0-3 months experience— if you fall in this category, you should check out OnlineProfits.com). However, it is free and unless you have some sort of formal business training, then you will probably learn a thing or two about maximizing your online business profits by reading it.

If you want to read all the details of the report, you can download it by clicking here.

What Can A 300 Dollar Candle Teach You About Making Money Online In 2009?

January 1, 2009

Happy New Year to everyone. I want your 2009 to be the most successful year ever. Let me tell you a story about a 300 dollar candle that’s a little bit embarrassing, but will help you make more money in 2009.

A few years back my wife Jill told me how she wished that I would help the kids make more handmade gifts for her. So in my infinite wisdom I decided that it would be easy to make a candle with the kids and she would really like it. I remember my parents making candles when I was little and it looked really easy back then, how hard could it be? Well…

I went to the craft store (a store I never usually go near) and picked up a candle making kit that said it was “easy to use”. One night my wife went out somewhere and the kids and I started making the candle… Long story short, it wasn’t as easy as it looked on the packaging and um…

Apparently, hot candle wax shouldn’t be poured down the garbage disposal!

We did manage to make a candle, but after paying for a new garbage disposal it turned out the total cost of making the candle was around 300 dollars. My wife said that I didn’t have to make her any more crafts because it cost us too much money and next time I can just buy her a pre-made candle at the store.

I learned from that mistake and to this day have never poured candle wax down a garbage disposal again ūüôā

Have you learned from the mistakes you made in 2008?

Did you try things that didn’t work and keep doing them or did you move on to focus on the things that work?

I am not and never have been good at making crafts. If I had to make a living making candles (or any other craft) I would be a very poor man. However, I am good at making money, which I can then use to buy already made crafts. That works much better for me. How about you?

Are you trying to get traffic through social media marketing, but can only seem to get it through the Search Engines? If so, why not focus on what is working (SEO) and stop focusing on what it isn’t working (social marketing)?

Are you bad at writing content, but great at designing websites? Hire someone or partner with someone who can write content and focus on designing websites.

To make 2009 your most successful year running an online business you need to learn from the mistakes you made in 2008. So what mistakes did you make in 2008 that you won’t be making in 2009?

An Honest Week’s Pay For An Honest Day’s Work

December 2, 2008

In the movie Sergeant Bilko, comedian Steve Martin says,

All I’ve ever wanted was an honest week’s pay for an honest day’s work.

If you are like most people, you want the same thing! I am going to let you know the one business success factor that is most likely to help you achieve that dream in 2009.

Essentially, this is the most important thing for you to do in 2009.

What is it?

FOCUS!

That’s it. The most important thing for you do to succeed in your business is to Focus!

Focus is one of the biggest issues that many of us face in modern society. In fact, the extremely popular Internet marketing guru, Rich Schefren, has been talking a lot about the huge roadblock that a lack of focus causes for most would-be Entrepreneurs.

You have to focus to achieve your goals.

So what do you mean by “focus”?

Many of us check our email too many times a day, spend too much time on social networks, spend too much time reading blogs, spend too much time texting our friends and not enough time focusing on what we want to accomplish. We get distracted all the time and don’t focus on accomplishing our goals. Those are some of the ways that a lack of focus hurts are business efforts. However, there is another way a lack of focus hurts us. Let me use my own business as an example of this.

This past year I have been focusing on personal and spiritual growth and I have not been focused on making my business succeed. This has been really good for me, and I recommend that you never neglect the rest of your life to achieve your business goals. However, last month I started making plans for making my online business more profitable in 2009. I wrote down my list of plans and they looked something like this:

1. Create some websites in a specific non-Internet marketing niche that I am familiar with and then move on to create some sites in another niche I am interested in (I am not naming the niches for competitive reasons).
2. Finish creating a coaching program in the Internet marketing niche (I am more than half way finished with the curriculum).
3. Create a website for the business that my kids want to start and work with them on it.
4. Start another online business in the Internet marketing niche.

My plan was to focus on each plan one at a time, which sounded good in theory, but…

I told one of my friends here in Houston about my plans and he essentially said:

“George you need to FOCUS! I focus on ONE niche and that’s how I dominate it.”

Now before I go on, I need to point out that my friend makes a lot of money in the niche he is in. It isn’t p@rn, gambling or prescription drugs. And it’s not in the Internet marketing / make money online niche. While I don’t want to reveal exact numbers, let’s just say it’s over $50,000/month. In other words, he knows what he’s talking about.

You ever wonder why more people like him don’t get into the Internet marketing niche?

Focus!

You wonder why so many people in this industry only make money selling Internet marketing/make money online products and services to other people?

Focus!

To succeed you need to focus on dominating a niche.

That’s not to say you can’t work on more than one niche. In fact, when you start out you might want to try out a few different niches until you find a niche that you want to dominate. Once you find that niche, focus on it. Then you will be on your way to making an honest week’s pay for an honest day’s work.

How To Create Online Videos That Sell Your Products And Services

October 29, 2008

If you have been spending any time on the Internet then I am sure you have noticed the huge rise in popularity of video on the web. I recently had the privilege of taking a four-week online training course called, Web Video University, that teaches you how to create online videos from start to finish.

The focus of the training is to teach you how to create videos that sell. In my opinion, the course keeps it’s promise.

The only real problem I had with the course is that the training uses Sony Vegas as the editing tool of choice. In and of itself that’s not really a problem. The problem is that I would have liked to see other tools (especially Camtasia) discussed in regards to making the videos.

However, that problem is outweighed by all the fantastic information revealed in the training, including:

  • The best tools for creating professional quality video

  • Your best choices for video equipment and cheapest alternatives to create high quality video

  • How to properly light and film your videos

  • How to create your own blue screen and teleprompter

  • The optimum lengths and times to use for various aspects of your video

  • The best methods of using videos to sell your products and services

  • How to get your marketing message across with video

  • How to edit your video for that perfect look and feel

  • and much more

Going through the 4 week course at Web Video University, I learned quite a bit about creating video. Overall, I was very impressed with the depth of the lessons on making videos that sell. I highly recommend Web Video University to anyone who wants to learn how to make online videos to market their products or services.

I intend to add video to some of my sites in the coming year, and the information I learned
from web video university should prove to make the process easier and more profitable. The price is extremely reasonable, and the training is excellent, so…

I just finished reading Rich Schefren’s latest free report, “The Uncertainty Syndrome“. This is my really, really, really quick review of it:

The Uncertainty Syndrome” is an AWESOME read! In this report, Rich reveals some big constraints that keep you from making more money online. Constraint # 4 was a big problem for me and I found the exact solution to fix my problem on page 39 of “The Uncertainty Syndrome“. In fact, I am immediately going to implement the solution on page 39 of the report, because it will make a HUGE difference in my bottom line.

If you haven’t already read the report, I highly recommend you go download it now by clicking here!

Review Of Stomping The Search Engines 2.0 and The Net Effect

September 6, 2008

I just got back from a short hiatus and I can’t really say that I missed the Internet all the much. In fact, I had an AWESOME time and look forward to getting away from it all again.

Anyway, I am a bit late on this, but I wanted to quickly let you know my thoughts on “The Net Effect and Stomping the Search Engines 2”.

The Net Effect Review

The Net Effect is an Internet marketing magazine put out by the folks at StomperNet. The articles in the magazine were loaded with good information for beginners and those new to making money online. In my opinion, the best feature of the magazine is at the end. At the end of every magazine there is an action plan for implementing what you learn in the magazine. The action plan sets “the Net Effect” apart from many of the other internet marketing magazines/newsletters that I have subscribed to and I expect many people to copy this model in the future.

Overall, I recommend The Net Effect for newbies looking for solid information on Internet marketing.

The BONUS

When you sign up for the free trial version of the Net Effect, you can also get a copy of the Stomping The Search Engines 2. All you do is pay for the cost of shipping and handling. Since you will be getting both products for shipping and handling here are my quick thoughts on Stomping the Search Engines 2:

Review of Stomping The Search Engines 2.0

Stomping the Search Engines 2.0 has excellent information on how to increase your Search Engine traffic.

Stomping the Search Engines 2 is EXTREMELY different from the first version of Stomping the Search Engines. The biggest difference is that version 1 was all audio and version 2 is a video course. Additionally, it is NEW and therefore covers the most up to date Search Engine strategies for getting high rankings.

Just like The Net Effect, Stomping the Search Engines version 2 is a good product for beginners.

If you are an advanced level marketer your time will be better spent on continuing to build your business. However, I do recommend that beginners go check out this deal, because the price for the first edition of The Net Effect and Stomping The Search Engines 2.0 is definitely worth it.

Click here to check it out for yourself.

Sometimes, You Just Have to Outsource To Make Money Online

September 4, 2008

My latest project is a book that I wrote, and edited, and rewrote again and again. Despite all my efforts, I still can’t get it quite right. I’ve looked at it and messed with it, and finally, I’ve come to a conclusion. Sometimes, you just have to outsource, and in my case, I’m sending it to a freelance editor for a professional critique.

Now, in online business, you’ll find you’re better at some things than others. You may also find that no matter how much you try, you’ll never get as good as you have to be at something you absolutely, positively need. Fortunately, outsourcing is the way to get around that, and while you’ll have to spend some money, you can still get it done.

When outsourcing, remember a few things:

  • Not all freelancing is created equal. If you find someone that can do a really good job, employ a little networking and keep that freelancer on file for when you need their services again.

  • If at all possible, try to get a sample of work before you buy. In the case of my ebook covers, I could see a preview of my graphic designer’s work before I purchased from him. This will give you a good idea of what you’ll be getting before you spend money for it.

  • If the work or service is substandard, remember there is more than one freelancer available in the talent pool. There is almost certainly more than one for whatever kind of work you need, so don’t think you have to go back to someone who fell short.

  • When hiring a freelancer, be specific. The more you tell them beforehand, the closer they’ll get to giving you what you want the first time around.

  • Freelancers can be found in search engines, or on sites like elance.com, guru.com, and others.

You can’t do it all, as much as you might want to be a jack-of-all-trades. So if you ever need something done better than you can do it, outsource.

Seriously, how do you make a beautiful, sellable ebook? Find your answers today with The Ebook Walkthrough!
