Poll Results – What web 2.0 site has given you the most free traffic?

September 19, 2007

Here are the results of my last poll:

What web 2.0 site has given you the most free traffic?

MySpace (35%)
Stumbleupon (35%)
Squidoo (10%)
other (10%)
Digg (5%) (5%)
Netscape (0%)

Total votes: 20

I was a little surprised by the results. I expected more votes for Netscape and less votes for MySpace. I am not surprised at all by Stumbelupon being one of the two top sites voted on. I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised, since one of my sites was getting really good traffic from MySpace before I ever signed up for a MySpace account.

Tomorrow I will have a new poll for you and I will be revealing a little bit about the offer someone made this past week to buy my blog. I will also share whether I took it or not…

Please Take This Poll

August 5, 2007

It’s been a while since I have run any polls. I am very interested in you answer. So here goes…

And the Winner is…

March 6, 2007

And the winner is … Blog Traffic Tips!

Recently, I put up a poll asking for input on what type of weekly tip you would be interested in. I am going to talk more about what I am going to do as result of the poll. Here are the final results of the poll:

What topic would you like me to do a weekly tip on?

  • Blog Traffic: 36% (9)
  • Blogging: 28% (7)
  • Affiliate Marketing: 20% (5)
  • Website Traffic: 16% (4)

Total Votes : 25

Which Google Adsense advertising placement annoys you the most?

December 25, 2006

In my last poll I asked you:

Which Google Adsense advertising placement annoys you the most?

Here are the results:

  • At the Top of an Article: 50% (34)
  • In the Middle of an Article: 25% (17)
  • At the End of an Article: 0% (0)
  • At the Top of the Site: 4% (3)
  • In the Navigation Bar: 4% (3)
  • Don’t care: 16% (11)

Total Votes : 68

I am not sure how this is going to affect my Google Adsense placement.

Personally, I find it most annoying when ads are in the middle of an article, because I have to pause and stop reading in the middle of an article.

Ads at the top of articles make me the most money, so it’s hard to move them. In fact, this poll showed that Adsense placement that makes the most money is also the placement people find the most annoying. Adsense placement that makes the least amount of money is also the least annoying.

So all website owners are faced with the problem of making money vs. annoying our visitors. That kind of makes sense, since nobody really wants to see advertising.

What do you think of the results?

Where Oh Where Should my Google Ads Go?

November 1, 2006

I have been having an interesting discussion in the comments for this post on Blog the Internet.

We are having a disagreement on the placement of advertising on blogs and websites.

As I stated in the comments, the thing that annoys me the most are ads that are placed in the middle of an article. Vexation from peevelog likes the ads in the middle of articles. Gary from Blog the Internet hates ads at the top of articles. I have run across some people who hate ALL ads.

That’s one of the problems with advertising in general. Nobody really wants to look at a lot of it, we all have our limits and preferences regarding how advertising is handled, but without it how do businesses make money?

From my personal testing, ads at the top of articles pay me the most money. This is why I currently place ads in the top of my posts using the java script I developed a while back.

So what do you think? Does it matter to you where the ads are placed?

Go vote on my new poll.

Should I Add more Writers? – Poll Results

November 1, 2006

Here are the poll results for my last poll:

Should I add more writers to this blog?

  • yes: 73% (8)
  • no: 18% (2)
  • don’t care: 9% (1)

Total Votes : 11

It looks like most of you are in favor of adding more writers to this blog. I have been thinking about doing this ever since I came up with the blog. I think group blogs are generally easier to get traffic to and obviously make it easier to produce quality content.

I will have to think of how best to handle this. In the mean time, If you are interested in writing on this blog then feel free to contact me.

New Poll – Should I add more writers to this blog?

September 22, 2006

My latest poll has recieved the fewest votes in a while for a poll of mine. It makes me believe that adding interviews to my blog, isn’t going to make a huge difference in the traffic. However, I am still going to consider doing occasional interviews. The results of the poll are listed below, but first I wanted to let you know about my new poll.

I have contemplated adding writers to this blog ever since I started it. I was wondering what you thought. Please, let me know by voting.

Now for my previous poll results:

  • Running a Business: 11% (1)
  • E-mail Marketing: 0% (0)

Poll Results – What would you like changed

August 29, 2006

In my last poll I asked the question:

“What would you consider to be the most remarkable improvement I could make to this blog?”

And here are the results in order of votes:

  • Change the Layout and Design: 21% (5)
  • Add Guest Interviews: 17% (4)
  • Review more Internet Marketing Products/Ebooks: 12% (3)
  • Add Beginner Level Tutorials on Various Topics That I Write About: 12% (3)
  • Write More Detail About my Businesses: 12% (3)
  • Highlight Most Popular Posts: 8% (2)
  • Write more series like “Ways to Make Money Online” Series: 8% (2)
  • Add Beginner Level Video Tutorials: 4% (1)
  • Add More Writers: 4% (1)
  • Add Video Blog Entries: 0% (0)
  • Post More Frequently 2-3 Times a Day: 0% (0)
  • Post Longer More Detailed Posts: 0% (0)

Total Votes : 24

So the winner (and the one I was leaning towards as a first step) is changing the layout/design of the blog. I have never been completely happy with the layout of this blog. I would prefer 3 columns and a more profesional look. So that will be first on my list.

I was surprised that adding interviews came in second. That was a bit eye opening. I was also surprised that adding video blog entries didn’t get any votes.

Anyway, I hope to use some of this information to transform my blog into a Purple Cow.

Thank you for voting!

How much money do you want to make Online?

June 21, 2006

Here are the results from my last poll:

How much money do you want to make every month from your web business?
0-100 dollars: 0% (0)
100-1,000 dollars: 12% (10)
1,000-5,000 dollars: 32% (26)
5,000-10,000 dollars: 7% (6)
10,000-20,000 dollars: 9% (7)
20,000 and higher: 37% (30)
Don’t know.: 0% (0)
Don’t Care.: 2% (2)
Total Votes : 81

It wasn’t too surprising that 37% of the vote went to making 20,000 dollars a month or higher. This tells me that a lot of you are like me and have very high aspirations for your web business.

What was interesting is that the choice with the next highest vote total was 1,000-5,000 dollars with 32% of the vote. For most people 5000 dollars a month would be enough money to live off. When you add the two top choices together they accounted for a whopping 69% of the vote! What that tells me is that most of you, either want to learn how to make tons of money on the Internet or you want to learn how to make a living on the Internet.

Nobody chose to vote for 0-100 dollars a month as a goal, which is not surprising. 0-100 dollars a month isn’t going to pay any bills.

This poll gives me insight into your goals, which will help me make this blog into a better resource for you. Thank you so much for taking my poll and please take my latest poll, because it is going to help determine the future direction of this blog as well.

Site Revamp

June 21, 2006

I am considering revamping this site towards the end of the summer. While I will continue to provide you with details about my online business success and failures, I want to make some changes to this blog. I am doing this for a number of reasons, the biggest of which is that I want this blog (and eventually all of my websites) to be remarkable. I have been reading Seth Godin’s book called the “Purple Cow” and it really makes sense. If I want to make big money online, I need to have a “Purple Cow”. My websites need to stand out and be remarkable.

I am starting with this blog, because it is one of my favorite blogs to write on. I will continue to discuss things about making money online and Internet Marketing, etc. But I want to find out from you what you would consider to be the most remarkable change I can make to this blog. Feel free to let me know in the comments of this post and/or by voting in my new poll.

Here are the choices in my poll, but feel free to add to this list in my comments section.

  1. Change the Layout and Design
  2. Highlight Most Popular Posts
  3. Add Video Blog Entries
  4. Add Beginner Level Tutorials on Various Topics That I Write About
  5. Add Beginner Level Video Tutorials
  6. Write More Detail About my Businesses
  7. Write more series like “Ways to Make Money Online” Series
  8. Post More Frequently 2-3 Times a Day
  9. Post Longer More Detailed Posts
  10. Add More Writers
  11. Review more Internet Marketing Products/Ebooks
  12. Add Guest Interviews

I would love to hear from you, so please let me know what you would like to see added to this blog. Your opinion will definitely affect the direction of this blog.
