Fun With Website Optimization
May 15, 2008
You’ve finally completed the groundwork for your latest income strategy, be it a sales letter
or something else. It looks beautiful. You’ve slaved over the copy, put the images where they should be, and then you posted it to the Internet and started driving traffic. The problem now is, you’re job is only half done.
Now it’s time for the optimization. This is a fancy word that means you:
- Test
- Change
- Retest
- Change some more
- Beat your head on the wall
- Scream at your computer
- Pull on your hair
- Then repeat until you have a sales letter/opt-in form/solo ad/whatnot that does what it’s supposed to do.
I’m currently at this stage in my latest ebook release, but not far enough along for the hair-pulling or scremaing yet. Have no fear, I’ll get there eventually.
You may have already noticed already that it’s not my favorite thing to do. It won’t be yours either, but it’s an absolute necessity if you want to successfully sell. Unless you’re a prodigy, you’re not going to get whatever you made right on the first shot. That’s quite all right, because that’s the way it works for the vast majority of us.
So, here are a few things you might want to change or test if your site or strategy isn’t performing as planned:
Initial impressions: The initial impression is the very first sensation someone gets when they land on your site. You don’t have long to make a good one, so if you’re not garnering any conversions and your site stats say the visitors are only staying for a second or two, you have an initial impression problem. Headers, layout, and colors all affect this.
Your headline: You’ve probably seen The Big Read Headline. It’s the “Attention” portion of AIDA, and makes a huge difference in whether or not you get and keep someone’s attention. Make your headlines short and hard-hitting, and if its not working, tweak the wording, word-wrap breaks (which you can manage with a <br> HTML command), and embellishments like quotation marks or underlines.
Your copy: It helps to go back to your copy once you haven’t looked at it for a while, because you give yourself some objectivity. You may notice things like awkward sentences, weak selling, and bad layout that makes it unpleasant to read. Again, these are things which require tweaking over time, and small things like the font family and its point size.
Images: Chances are I’m going to have to get a header for my new site, and I’ll be doing that soon. As I stated last week, other images like your picture, ebook covers, return guarantee ribbons, and fancy ‘Buy Now’ buttons might be necessary to add, or you may have gone too far and have to remove a few things.
Yes, I find optimization is about as much fun for me as a dental appointment, and even worse, takes much longer than a dentist would. It is a necessary evil though, and obligatory to make your sites convert like they should.

Review Of The SEO Book Training Program
May 14, 2008
![]()
What do I think about Aaron Wall’s SEO Book?
I have been meaning to review Aaron Wall’s SEO book ever since I interviewed Aaron last year. I am finally getting around to it.
First of all I want to say it’s REALLY, REALLY loaded with information! His ebook had over 300 pages and his training program has more information than his ebook ever had.
The SEO Book training program covers A LOT more than just Search Engine Optimization. In addition to SEO, the SEO Book covers:
- Copywriting
- Social Marketing
- Website Usability
- Website Monetization
- Blogging
- and more!
Aaron uses a combination of articles and videos to teach you how to rank high in the Search engines. He also teaches you just about everything imaginable about marketing a product or service.
Not only that, but the SEO Book has a private online community where you can ask and answer questions of both Aaron and other members of his program. The community really blew me away. I have been a member of many paid online communities and none of them were as good as the one that Aaron runs. The most amazing thing to me about the community is how active Aaron is in it. The last time I checked Aaron Wall had 2,799 posts (16.26 posts per day). If you want to get direct advice from Aaron then you should sign up soon, because I just don’t see how Aaron can continue to be so active on his forum and continue to take on new members. It doesn’t seem like a very scalable business model to me.
Anyway, if you are new to online marketing or you want a great place to learn about online marketing (especially SEO) then I recommend that you click here to join the SEO Book Training Program. It is one of the best deals on the Internet for beginners to learn how to make money online.

Their first video, talks about how StomperNet co-founder Brad Fallon’s Wedding Favors site was dumped from Google’s Search Engine results. It also tells you exactly what Brad did to have his best 6 months ever – without a home page listing in Google by using PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising.
You can watch how he did it, by clicking here.
Also, be sure to keep your eye out for more videos from the StomperNet folks. Their videos tend to be REALLY good.

My Thoughts On Dan Lok’s The Death Of Information Marketing
April 7, 2008
I just finished reading Dan Lok’s free ebook, “The Death of Information Marketing“. It’s a pretty good read and I agree with most of what Dan says.
I don’t like that Dan asks for more personal information than just your name and email to download the ebook. I almost didn’t download it because of that. I agree that relying on email alone to stay in contact with customers is a mistake, but I also believe that THE MOST information you should require someone to give you to download a free ebook is an email address and a name.
With that exception, the ebook is filled with solid Internet marketing advice. In fact, some of the advice that Dan gives is the same advice I have received from one of my mentors this year.
All in all, “The Death of Information Marketing” is a good read for those who want to learn how to run a successful information marketing business.

The Death of Information Marketing
April 3, 2008
I just found out that yet another “Death of…” book has been released. This time it’s by Dan Lok.
First there was “The Death of Adsense” by Scott Boulch. Next came The Death of Internet marketing by Mike Filsaime, and now there is a new FREE ebook called…
The Death of Information Marketing
Like it’s predecessors affiliates get paid every time someone downloads the ebook.
I haven’ finished reading it yet, but when I do I will let you know what I think of it. You can check it out for yourself and download The Death of Information Marketing by clicking here.
After you read it, let me know what you think!
Seven Tips for Going Viral
April 2, 2008
I just put a new web site on the Net this week. It’s not about making money online, so I won’t mention it here. It is, however, designed to go viral, and that’s what I’m talking about today.

Yes, you can design a site to go viral. You can generate traffic through word-of-mouth and linkbaiting, and that’s how I intend to get most of my traffic to my new one. It includes some social techniques mixed with my lessons learned from the last two sites which sadly, no longer exist.
So that you don’t have to watch your best efforts go to waste as I once did, here are some tips to help you on your way.
- Be unusual: The Internet is way, way to big for vanilla. Vanilla is everywhere. So, find a topic and either approach it from an unusual direction, be controversial, be humorous, but be different.
- Make it a “.com”: I don’t care if your site is a company or not. When I say “Dot Com” to anyone, they know what it is, because the term is a pop culture phenomenon now. My last sites were “.net” because I was trying to be compliant, but it doesn’t matter. If you have to take a pencil and pad and hammer out URL’s until you can get something you can use with a “.com” extension, do so. It makes your URL much easier to remember.
- Give it a catchy URL: Another big problem of mine I’ve since fixed, and again, if you have to go at it all day with a pencil and pad, invent a catchy URL. Catchy URL’s are preferably short and memorable in some way. To go viral, they should also be fun. “Google.com” is fun, and look what happened to them.
- Make it interactive: In Web 2.0, it’s the only way to go. Blog comments, forum postings, and other forms of visitor interactivity are not only expected nowadays, but are a good way to keep your previous visitors returning.
- If someone wants to social bookmark you, make it easy for them: Mass bookmarking programs, Feedburner Feed Flares, and other things exist so that if your visitors want to bookmark you on their choice of social bookmarking sites, they can. Find the mass bookmarking tool that works best for you, and use it.
- Images: You have to have them, if only in your header. I’m still working on my site’s images, but you’ll need them in the end. And not just any image, but fun, unusual, or interesting images.
- Respond to your visitors: Do you have a unique sense of humor, insight, or anything else that helps you stand out from the crowd? Use it to respond to your visitors. Write about their emails. Talk about their issues. They’ll tell their friends about how cool you are, and others will come to visit you.
If you’re designing a site from scratch and want to go viral, remember the tips above. You can get started on the right foot, and will help your advertising efforts go the extra mile with a little viral intent.

Do Not Let Your Stresses Get The Best Of You In The Business World
March 31, 2008
Guest post by Stanley Popovich
Do not let your anxieties get the best of you in the business world. It is important to know how to handle your anxieties and stresses. As a result, here is a list of techniques and suggestions on what to do in managing your business related stresses and anxieties.
Take it one day at a time. Instead of worrying about how you will get through the rest of the week or coming month, try to focus on today. Each day can provide us with different opportunities to learn new things and that includes learning how to deal with your problems. Focus on the present and stop trying to predict what may happen next week. Next week will take care of itself.
Learn how to manage your fearful thoughts that may be difficult to manage. When experiencing a negative thought, read some positive statements and affirmations that help lift your spirits and make you feel better. Remember that your fearful thoughts may be exaggerated so balance these thoughts with realistic thinking and common sense.
Sometimes, we get stressed when everything happens all at once. When this happens, a person should take a deep breath and try to find something to do for a few minutes to get their mind off of the problem. A person could take a walk, listen to some music, read the newspaper or do an activity that will give them a fresh perspective on things.
When managing your fears and anxieties do not try to tackle everything at once. The best solution is to break your fears or problems into a series of smaller steps. Completing these smaller tasks one at a time will make the stress more manageable and increases your chances of success.
Remember that no one can predict the future with one hundred percent certainty. Even if the thing that you feared does happen there are circumstances and factors that you can’t predict which can be used to your advantage. For instance, let’s say at your place of work that you miss the deadline for a project you have been working on for the last few months. Everything you feared is coming true. Suddenly, your boss comes to your office and tells you that the deadline is extended and that he forgot to tell you the day before. This unknown factor changes everything. Remember: we may be ninety-nine percent correct in predicting the future, but all it takes is for that one percent to make a world of difference.
Take advantage of the help that is available around you. If possible, talk to a professional who can help you manage your fears and anxieties. They will be able to provide you with additional advice and insights on how to deal with your current problem. By talking to a professional, a person will be helping themselves in the long run because they will become better able to deal with their problems in the future. Managing your fears and anxieties takes practice. The more you practice, the better you will become.
Take a vacation day to relax. Many people work two jobs nowadays. Sooner or later, the long work hours will catch up with you and take a toll on your health. Take the day off and do something you enjoy. The better you can manage your stresses and anxieties the better off you will be in the long run.
