I think I have come to the end of accepting reciprocal links. I find spending just a little more time looking for relevant one-way-links to my pages is much more rewarding these days.

If you are in B2B then you don’t need traffic from residential surfers but from companies from your market segment.
Thus the first thing you need to do is to know what companies are visiting your website and count how many are from the market segment you aiming at with your products or solutions.
Then investigate the origin or search words used by the interested companies.

Traffic is not leads.
Visiting companies are not leads.
Companies from your market segment could become leads.

Articles are good for backward links but these days forums, blogs, social media all play roles in backward link creation. Submitting your site to some popular directories is still good but it is not like a few years back for sure when this is all you needed to do. Will be interesting to see what is next.

I’m a big fan of articles, Mark. I point at least one (and usually more) at every site I create, and even use an article announcement service to get them out to the world bulk rate.

Lately, I’ve taken to using its larger cousin, the viral PDF report too.

I agree with you that its takes too much time to find links using the conventional methods. My favorite is using articles.

Another way to use articles is allow your article to be used freely as content on other websites or ezines, except that the author’s bio should be left intact.

More like a backlink sort of. I mean everyone is looking for ways to get quality content free, so why not allow them use it. Its a win-win-win situation.
