They really do make you site stand out when browsing through bookmarks. Like Takeoffzone I have never bothered using tags and it appears to be fine in all browsers in safari. Maybe the browsers just recognize the 'favicon.ico' file without help now. The way I learned it involved the tags, but if it works just fine for you, I suppose it's ok.
