My Blog Traffic Challenge– What I Learned When I Doubled My Traffic

Written by George Manty  · June 25, 2007

Last March, I started something called “The Blog Traffic Challenge“. My goal was to double my traffic in three months.

How did I do?

As said in my original post on March 6th:

I have averaged 503.33 visitors a day and 1388.67 page views a day. That means that I need to get 1007 visitors a day and 2778 page views day by June 6th.

3 months later, on June 6th I had 1042 visitors and 3006 pageviews.

I did manage to double my traffic in three months (I actually did it under 2 months), but I was hoping to improve my traffic even more. However, I got distracted by the Stompernet trial and some other things. It showed me my biggest business weakness –
“not staying focused”.

Once I joined stompernet, I stopped looking for new bloggers to network with … I stopped doing what was working for me!

The lesson you can learn from my blog traffic challenge results is to “stay focused”.

I am very interested in seeing Wendy’s results. She is one of the first two people to sign up for the challenge and since then she has had HUGE success.

If you participated in the blog traffic challenge, please send me your lessons/quick tips/results and I will write about them with a post to your blog. Alternatively, write about them on your blog and I will link out to your post.

So, how did you do? Did you stay focused? Did you double your traffic?

Update: And the second lesson you can learn is that networking with other bloggers is possibly the best way to get traffic to your blog.

    OK, I’ll bite. šŸ™‚

I just pulled stats from the first 15 days of March vs. the first 15 days of June (which were actually not that great traffic-wise because my site was down a significant amount of time as I moved to my new semi-dedicated server!).

Although I won’t disclose exact numbers, my visits are up 237% and pageviews are up 151%.

I had almost forgotten about your challenge – I’m so happy to see that I way more than doubled my numbers since then!

Perhaps I can double them again for the rest of the summer?! I think that’s my next challenge! šŸ˜‰

Thanks George – it has been great getting to know you during this time, too!

That’s great news Wendy. I kind of figured you had done REALLY well. I am happy to see it and also happy to get to know you during this time.

I look forward to watching your business grow.

I thought that you would have really good results. From what I could tell you were doing what I was doing only you were doing it WAY more than I was. I am glad you had such good traffic results. If you care share to how you accomplished the results, feel free to write a guest post or just let us know how you did it.

    Congratulations on the great results!

Even knowing that I need to focus, I get new ideas every day that interfere with my focus.

I plan on writing about this topic in more detail, if I can ever get focused enough to finish the post šŸ™‚

Well, I can attribute the growth to a few things:

Momentum – my blog had been gaining speed for 10 months prior – at some point hard work HAS TO pay off!

Publicity – Winning Elite Retreat and writing for really significantly raised my visibility

Networking – I wouldn’t have landed either of the above opportunities without the networking I have done since day one

Social Media – A few big wins on sites such as Digg and SU have had a good lasting effect on growth

In other words – nothing really new here – just hard work and doing the things we know we need to do to grow our businesses!

    Thanks Wendy for the information.

From your list, Momentum, and Networking have had the biggest impact on my traffic.

George I will fill you in at the end of the month with exact figures, at this point it looks like it will nearly double but not quite. Still a result I am very pleased with as it really did get me thinking about it – and from that making some worthwhile changes particularly SEO ones. The bar graph is looking pretty impressive to say the least.
