Great call George. I wish more thought like you. I actually just started to do this for the very reason that you mentioned. I’ll admit that for awhile i did use the nofollow because they said it bled page rank from your blog and passed it to the other site. Well i changed the policy to do follow and, to date, haven’t noticed ANY change in page rank. But then again, it’s only been about two months since i’ve done this. We shall see, but either way, i plan to keep the do follow. I just think it’s good practice.

I wish all bloggers felt the way you do about the “no follow tag”. I agree that it is abused and that it discourages people from commenting. This way you get more content built for you as well as the commentor gaining valuable links that will help them.

I wish more were like you. I love to comment on blogs, but some people don’t follow.
I personally want people to comment on my blog, but only with relevant content of course.

I think most people don’t want to moderate all of their comments.

That’s precisely the point of having a blog, to encourage interaction among your readers. You can use comments to rate your post based on the reactions of your readers. And at the same time get to know who your readers are, what they do and what they like to read from you.

I love the do follow word press plugin, I thought the whole point of having a blog was to encourage comments, having a no follow doesnt really encourage commenters.

At the moment Search engines follow both links but only count the anchor text from the first link for SEO purposes.

Before nofollow was invented by the Search Engines commenting on blogs was considered by the Search Engines as possibly SE spam. And yes, I guess that using do-follow could be considered spam by the Search Engines, but the truth of the matter is that the Search Engines should rely on themselves to make their Search Engine algorithms work better, not on webmasters. It’s not our job, they don’t pay us to make their product better.

Nofollow is so abused by webmasters these days it’s pitiful. It needs to go away…

indeed the do-follow plugin is a great way to get links to your site and if you have it enabled it also promotes commenting. But the question is could this been seen as a way to game SE’s by encouraging unnatural behaviour.

The do follow plugin is fantastic if your sole purpose is to gain more comments, however it will always be open to abuse. I tried it on several of my blogs and I have to admit after the 500th deletion of offensive spam it got excessively tiring. It is always nice for those looking to promote their sites though. Sorry for the plug :p.

George, this is a cool plugin, I’m undecided as yet on its value but we’ll see… I’d like to suggest another plugin I love

it allows you to subscribe to new comments via email. Its a great way to follow the comments and boost the conversation via comments because once you post a comment you can respond without having to bookmark the page…

Now if I can just get my main blog back onto WordPress I’ll be a happy camper
