Internet Marketing Tips From Around The Net 4/5/2007
Written by George Manty · April 6, 2007
This week I did a lot of reading online. Most of it was going through the list of 48 blogging mistakes. Here are some of the other articles that I enjoyed reading from around the web:
I Made $6549.52 From Blogging in March
Great Post by Yaro. As I said in the comments:
Excellent post. I think it is really cool that you have found a good balance between blogging and making money other ways online. I made the mistake of putting too much time into blogging and I am now thinking of ways to change that. I want more freedom with my time then what many of the top bloggers appear to have. I don’t want blogging to become a 9-5 job. More like 9-noon…
eMoms Birthday Party Contest – Grow Your Business with ShoeMoney & eMom!
Great contest idea by Wendy. Count me in. If you have a blog you should enter it as well. The prizes include tons of great free Intenet marketing products and advice.
The One Million Dollar Race
This looks like a fun contest. The rules aren’t complete yet, but the basic idea is you enter the competition to see who can earn a million dollars online the quickest. For those of us who are ultra competitive it may help motivate us to make more money. I will write more about this contest, once the rules are finalized.
My Take on Third Party Advertisement
Good post by Garry. I personally think that third party advertisers offer several advantages over going it on your own, like a bigger audience of potential advertisers, payment processing, etc. That said, I know that many people including my friend Austin, say that once you get enough traffic you should try to find a direct adveriser to sponsor your site.
The Ultimate Guide to Getting Lots of Link Love
An excellent guest post on problogger about getting links to your blog by Wendy.
Questioning the Legitimacy and Authenticity of Internet Marketing Advice & Sources
Great post by Aaron Wall about being careful about who you go to for advice and mentoring.

Thats insane to be able to do all that from a blog.. I should start blogging
I assume you are talking about Yaro’s income. Yep, it’s a pretty good amount of money.
Hey George,
I don’t dislike programs like Adsense, ReviewMe and Text-Link-Ads. I think they are great! But I think there comes a time in the growth of a site when the owner needs to consider launching their own campaign. What is great about offering forms of advertising on your site is that you can give the viewer many options. John Chow tells everyone to stay with these programs. I feel that if your site is very huge like Chow’s you are at the point where you could better serve your customer by providing direct advertising.
Garry,
I understand what you are saying and agree. I am not sure I agree with John Chow, because so many other people disagree with him on this. However, I just read his post and his reasoning is very sound. I don’t really keep up with his blog, so thanks for the link to his post.

There is nothing wrong with using third party advertising. But if you do choose to you need to recognize the fact that your advertisers are potentially being charged more and you are making less. John Chow mentions that his reason for using third party advertising is for building relationships. I think with a site as large as his, he is not serving his customers as best as he could. His advertisers have to pay more, he makes less, and then there is the middle man that is getting rich. I spoke in more detail about this on Kyle’s Cove. Again, there is nothing wrong with using these services, but I strongly feel when your site gets as large as John Chow’s, you need to go independent. It will make more money and cost less to the advertiser.
I agree with you Garry.
Craig,
I will consider it, but right now I really don’t have much free time to do another blog that isn’t going to pay my bills. I do wish your site the best of success and I will check it out.
PS. I am taking a day off this Monday and next Monday, so I won’t be posting on those days…
Interesting how he is trying to balance the time he spends blogging against other pursuits. It sounds like he has a good plan to funnel that money into other web properties also.
I think there is a difference between taking a chance and optimizing offering the option of a larger adspot for your own ads. but if your site is huge you have the option of doing multiple things. It would be nice if these ad programs had the ability to embed them without listing their name. and make it look like it is something you down on your own as well. I think larger sites will have better ideas.
