Squidoo is a good way to get traffic to your website but in 2010 Twitter and stumbleupon are better options to work on if someone wants to rank higher in traffic volume.

Yes, people still use it to promote their sites and to make money. It’s still a good way to bring in traffic, although I haven’t been using it as much lately.

Hi George,

Chris Turnquist here with Proteus Design Studio. Article Pro is right about the no follow tags. They are intended to prevent the search engine crawlers from following your backlink. I am advising people to continue adding the links to your Squidoo pages just as you’ve explained in this blog post. Use your keyword as anchor text in the link.

Most of these dynamic sites create nasty code and the don’t follow tags don’t work half the time anyway. So keep building links and you’ll succeed in ranking well for your desired keywords.

I don’t know whether or not Squidoo uses nofollow tag or not. I haven’t used it much recently. I will have to check that out when I get a chance. I thought that squidoo pages used to be followable though.

You’re wrong about this:
“The Search Engines will see the link on the Squidoo Lens as a link from an authority site. Therefore this link from the Squidoo lens is going to be a good quality link to your website. Ulitmately, this one link isn’t going to make any site rise to the top of the Search Engine rankings, but it will help.”

Squidoo like most sites nowadays add nofollow tags to all external links

that tells the search engines to totally ignore the link to your website and not give it any credit whatsoever

this is done to make sure that Squidoo retain the top rankings – and you get no SEO benefit

you do of course get visitors clicking through to your site – provided you can get your squidoo lense viewed in the first place

I have found Squidoo to bring occaisional traffic, but I believe if your keyword research is done first either using Google Traffic Estimator or Google Trends, your keyword links will be more popular since you choose the right ones.

Another good thing about squidoo lenses is you will normally see traffic quicker from a lens then when building your typical content site. Plus you don’t have to pay for a domain name

I am going to seriously start using squidoo to get traffic to my websites, and rank for keywords. There are many competitive keywords squidoo lenses rank for in Google. Now is the time to take advantage of it.

This was just the type of article I was looking for. I have just begun to try to get my ducks in a row, and add some of these new fangled ideas to increase traffic and pr and this site has definitely made me more informed. Fast indexing is only one of the benefits of Squidoo. Great backlinks and high pagerank which is made even better after the July Google “slap”.

It’s forced lensmasters to increase the quality of the material on their lenses and each lens now seems subject to the “rules” of Google for backlinks, quality keywords and not just junk thrown up on the site.

I’ve been following the Squidoo story on this blog, http://mymarketingexperiences.info/category/squidoo and using http://www.ultimatesquidoo.com to increase my pagerank on Google.

It’s been amazing using Squidoo and I highly recommend you check it out!

Thanks for clearing the air about tags and links from squidoo. I have a couple of lens in squidoo and they were indexed so fast I couldn’t believe it. Not once did I submit any of my lens to the search engines but they found them anyway. ( the tags and links helped I guess..) Of course, I recieved a reciprocal link from linkhelpers.net and found them to be a great help in the indexing process. Thanks!
