Internet Marketing is NOT DEAD!

November 14, 2006

Just so you know, I really like Mike Filsaime’s new free ebook.

However, I think the title is misleading. Obviously, Internet Marketing is NOT dead. If it were then Mike would be quitting and he is not.

There is a ton of money to be made on the net with all kinds of sites (blogs, wikis, forums, download sites, affiliate marketing, Adsense, ebooks, services, copywriting, seo, web design, software, games, membership sites, Internet Marketing, drop shipping, etc). There are all kinds of statistics out there about how fast the Internet is growing and how much money consumers will spend on the net.

So if you are trying to make money online, don’t worry. There is plenty of money to be made on the web and just like Google Adsense, Internet Marketing is NOT DEAD!

I just wanted to make sure I was clear about that.

That said, “The Death of Internet Marketing” is still a good read.

My Review of The Death of Internet Marketing

November 14, 2006

I finished reading “The Death of Internet Marketing” by Mike Filsaime. Here’s what I think about the book…

There was a section of the book (starting on page 39) that provided one of those “ah ha” moments for me. What’s great is that my wife Jill recently gave me a bunch of ideas that fit right into what Mike talks about in that section. Jill sure is blessed with a good head on her shoulders.

Anyway, suffice it to say that I really, really, like the book.

“The Death of Internet Marketing” is well worth the read, even if you aren’t planning on making money from it. Some of the concepts that Mike talks about really hit home for me.

Have you read it yet?

If not, you can download it by clicking here.

Then come back here and let me know what you think of it.

Another Death of Book?

November 12, 2006

I didn’t mention the death of Adsense book when I first heard about it, because

A. I was too busy with my 9-5 job.
B. I knew Adsense wasn’t dead.

There is a new “Death of…” book out called “The Death of Internet Marketing” by Mike Filsaime.

I just downloaded the ebook and I will let you know what I think of it later in the week. If you haven’t arleady seen “The Death of Internet Marketing”, I strongly suggest you go take a look at it. It’s free and you can make money from it by getting others to download it.

The timing of it’s release is kind of interesting, because I am working on a series of posts on Affiliate Marketing. One of the posts I have almost completed is about pay per action/pay per lead affiliate programs like “The Death of Internet Marketing”.

Anyway, you can click here to go download Mike Filsaime’s free ebook now.

My Squidoo Results

November 10, 2006

I mentioned earlier this month that I setup a Squidoo lens to see what would happen. Well, the other day I was sent an email and I made a whopping 30 cents from the two lenses I have set up.

That’s not really much money at all, but quite frankly I was expecting 0 cents, so 30 cents is more than what I was expecting. This next month I might go ahead and try making some more lenses just to see what happens. It didn’t take much time to make my first two lenses, so I figure I could make 10-20 lenses fairly quickly, link them all together and see what happens.

Also, the other day I was invited to join a Squidoo group (The Couch Potato) with my Heroes Lens. I have to figure out what that means. It seems like it is just another way to promote your lens. I went ahead and joined the group. I also started a group of my own (The Homeschool Group), but I haven’t really completed it yet. I wish there was more information on Groups in the Squidoo FAQ.

Anyway, I will test out Squidoo for another month on a limited basis and let you know what happens.

What Are You doing right now?

November 9, 2006

You might be wondering what I have been working on lately. Well, I mentioned earlier that I added a new blog for Jill and updated the theme for this blog this past weekend. But what else have I been doing?

Most of my free time I have been working on my 9-5 job. I am still putting in a lot of overtime at it.

As far as my online business, I have been having trouble keeping up with my blogs because of my 9-5 job and the fact that my top business priority right now is to turn our Homeschooling Wiki into the best possible site it can be. I have started off by really putting in a lot of effort on our homeschool curriculum category. I just finished up most of my work on the homeschool christian curriculum and I am currently working on adding Hebrew sites. I have a lot left to do, but I want to try and make each current category of the wiki more complete than any other homeschooling site on the Internet.

I also plan on starting to work on getting more links to our wiki. That said, it has received some fairly decent natural links just by being the first of it’s kind homeschool wiki.

Anyway, planning the direction of our wiki and building content in our wiki has taken up most of my free time. My goal is for it to be producing the kind of money (or more) that our dinosaur site does in the next 3 months.

I am trying to keep up our OnOurTV blog, but it hasn’t been easy.

Also, I am writing a series of posts for this blog that I think will be very good. But, it’s keeping me from having as much content to post on this blog (only so much time in a day).

Once my 9-5 becomes a 9-5 again, I am going to finish my business plan and get an even clearer vision for the business. In the meantime, my wife Jill and I have come up with lots of really good business ideas. Which is one reason I need to accomplish the goal of getting our wiki lot’s of traffic. Once it is bringing in more money, I should be able to spend more money to get our other business ideas off the ground. For now, the goal is to stay focused on the sites we have and build them up.

Lastly, Jill surprised me the other day when she bought accounting software, so I no longer have to do my books by hand. It should be a good time saver until I can afford an accountant/bookkeeper. I installed it last night, but have not used it yet.

So what are you doing to make money online? Are you bogged down reading about making money online or are you taking action?

Jill has a new blog – Natural Product Reviews!

November 6, 2006

This weekend I set up a new blog for my wife Jill and her friend Laura called Natural Product Reviews.

I have been putting this off for at least 6 months, but it didn’t take long at all to set up. Jill bought the wordpress template for their blog from template monster. It’s really nice and professional looking. We were originally going to try a free template, but we stumbled across the paid templates and decided to go with one of them. I made a few changes to it and have a few more changes left to make.

I think in the long term it will be a really good blog for Jill and Laura, because using natrual products is something they both have a big interest in. Also, they are both very passionate about using natural products, so their passion will show up in their blog posts.

Another good thing about their new blog is that it is a more focused niche than Natural Family News, which I think will make it easier for them to get regular readers.

Also, it should not be too hard for them to establish some initial traffic to the site. So many of our friends are also into natural products, which will give them some good word of mouth traffic to the blog. Plus, Jill and Laura already have a small community built up with their Natural Family News blog, most of whom will be interested in their new blog as well.

The last thing I wanted to say about their new blog is that at this point it is monetized with Adsense only, but once it is established they may find other ways to monetize it.

My New WordPress Theme – Good, Bad, Ugly???

November 5, 2006

I went ahead and updated the theme for this blog this weekend. I have some further tweaking to do (like I want the sign up for the newsletter to be more prominent), but for the most part I am fairly happy with it. I would love to know what you think about the new theme.

So what do you think about the new wordpress theme I am using? Do you love it, hate it, does it even matter?

How to Pick a Color Scheme for Your Website

November 3, 2006

My wife Jill found Karen Blundell’s blog yesterday, and showed me this great post of Karen’s about choosing the best colors for your website. Click here to read “Picking a color scheme for your website”.

Choosing colors for your website or blog can be an interesting process. I have to bookmark Karen’s post for the next time I am choosing colors for a website.

WordPress Scandal

November 2, 2006

Michel Fortin wrote this interesting post today about a WordPress scandal I thought you might be interested in. I have to side with Michel on this one.

What do you think? Is WordPress in the wrong?

Blog Classroom

November 2, 2006

Have you seen the Blog Classroom yet?

I have been too busy to really research it. It looks like it might be worthwhile for new bloggers.

I almost joined it, but I just don’t have the time right now to take a 6 week course on something I already know a lot about.

It is definitely a good idea, because there aren’t that many full fledged courses on blogging. I have actually considered creating a slightly more niche blogging class or partnering with someone to do so, but I found out that someone else was already planning on a course in that niche. Plus, I have other potential projects that I think will bring in more money.

Anyway, you can check out the Blog Classroom here and see what you think. It looks like they still have over 300 spots left in the course.

Where Oh Where Should my Google Ads Go?

November 1, 2006

I have been having an interesting discussion in the comments for this post on Blog the Internet.

We are having a disagreement on the placement of advertising on blogs and websites.

As I stated in the comments, the thing that annoys me the most are ads that are placed in the middle of an article. Vexation from peevelog likes the ads in the middle of articles. Gary from Blog the Internet hates ads at the top of articles. I have run across some people who hate ALL ads.

That’s one of the problems with advertising in general. Nobody really wants to look at a lot of it, we all have our limits and preferences regarding how advertising is handled, but without it how do businesses make money?

From my personal testing, ads at the top of articles pay me the most money. This is why I currently place ads in the top of my posts using the java script I developed a while back.

So what do you think? Does it matter to you where the ads are placed?

Go vote on my new poll.
