The Secrets of Writing Great Headlines

March 31, 2006

I found a new blog about making money called Copy Blogger. I found it because of this post on ProBlogger. I read ProBlogger on a regular basis and if you are a blogger I recommend you read it on a regualr basis as well.

Anyway, Copy Blogger has this excellent post that I recommend you read even if you aren’t a blogger. The post discusses the importance of your headline. Go check it out.

When you are done go check out Yanik Silver’s article on writing headlines that sell.

That’s it for now…

Starting to Post More

March 31, 2006

We have a couple of blogs that we are not really sure about their long term potential. I have decided that on one of them (http://positivesportsnews.com/), I will start posting more frequently and see how much that helps.

I have found on most of my blogs that posting more frequently really helps with traffic. At the very least it will give us more content, which always helps with Search Engine traffic.

Business Meeting This Past Tuesday

March 30, 2006

This past Tuesday night, Jill and I had her brother’s family over to hang out and discuss their new business partnership. I am really, really, really excited about their new business.

The thing that I really like about the business is that we will have no competition. We will be creating a new market. I have always wanted to come up with a product like this, and in this case the oppurtunity just fell into our laps.

If it is a success there will pretty much be nothing to do besides give God the glory for the business’ success. I am starting to think that for those who believe in God it is much harder to create a succesful business if you are not planning on giving the glory to God. Now back to our regularly scheduled post…

I think that the online aspect of this business could be really important. We weren’t thinking this at first, but it really could be important.

I can’t tell you much more about the business yet. I will tell you more about the business once we are ready to announce it.

Now I am off to get some Zs

Some of our blogs may be down periodically

March 29, 2006

Some of our blogs may be down periodically over the next several days. Our blogging web host is doing some upgrade work. Not to worry they shouldn’t be down very long at all.

The first one they are upgrading is the website promotion book blog, sometime tomorrow.

Our Dinosaur Site

March 28, 2006

I have this new deal with my 12 year old son Matthew who helped create our dinosaur site. From now on, we are taking 40% of the profit and putting it into savings for his college fund and then 10% of the profit is going to his spending money. That could be a good chunk of change. For instance this month he will probably be getting around 30 dollars of spending money from the site.

In exchange, he is creating at least one new dinosaur fact page a month for the site. Last night, I put up his newest one about the Oviraptor. We still need to find/buy an Oviraptor picture for the page, but otherwise that page is done.

This is good both to help him with his writing and researching skills and to help us add content to the site, which ultimately will bring more people to the site.

I plan on doing this same thing with each of my kids when they get older:

1. Let them pick something they are really interested in writing about.
2. Start up a site for them.
3. Help them put together the site, monetize it, and promote it.
4. Let them write articles for the site.
5. Give them a big percentage of the profits.

You could do that with your kids too (if you have any).

One of the reasons, I really want to do this is to teach my children how to be entrepreneurs. Which is not a skill you learn in school, it’s something you probably learn best by doing.

Anyway, that’s it for now…

More High Paying Adsense Words

March 27, 2006

After just having posted about high paying keywords last week, today I found this post via ThreadWatch.

It is a list of the top 230 highest paying keywords from CyberWyre. I don’t know that I would be interested in creating a site using any of these terms, but then again for around $50 a click maybe I should find a specialist in consolidating loans or a mortgage specialist or better yet a mesothelioma lawyer who wants to start a blog.

Anyway, maybe the list will give you some ideas for your next site or blog.

Making Money Online Series

March 24, 2006

I plan on starting a series of posts that will discuss different ways to make money online and what I think about them. In case you can’t wait for the series, I thought I would let you know that my favorite way to make money online is Affiliate Marketing. In particular using the techniques that I learned in the book:

The Affiliate Master’s Handbook by Ken Envoy.

Additionaly, I love Google Adsense. It is great! For those of you looking for good Adsense keywords to design a website around you will want to check out these two websites:

1. http://www.iotaweb.org/ – Free tool to search for high paying adsense terms.

2. Keyword Explosion – Database of 2.4 MILLION high paying niche keyword database. It is a great resouce for people looking for high paying keywords to profit on.

Anyone who has success with a particular system/book/training/etc. feel free to tell me your online succes story and we can discuss using it in my upcoming series about making money online.

That’s it for now…

Things I learned from the Olympics Blog

March 22, 2006

I am going to be writing a series of posts that will highlight the most important things I learned from making money with the Olympics Blog.

To start things off…

I don’t believe that blogs are the best way to make lots of money online.

However, I do believe that some people can make a living blogging.

The biggest problem I came across is the amount of work it takes to keep up a high traffic blog. It’s like a job. Whereas, when you create a regular informational website, once it’s up you don’t have to constantly update it. I have a website that consistently makes me from $150-250 dollars a month. I have spent 1-2 hours working on that website over the last 6 months. Now, sure I spent a lot of time up front with it. But now it runs on auto-pilot. (I have sitesell to thank for this)

There is something to be said for that. If I could create 50 sites like that, I could be making 200×50 dollars = 10,000 dollars a month from those informational sites, without spending much additional time on them. Better yet, I could create a mega-informational site that rakes in lots of money (like howstuffworks).

Anyway, in the near future I will be posting more thoughts on what I learned from the Olympics Blog and I will be starting a new series on making money online.

Apprentice Blog

March 21, 2006

Last night, my wife told me she wanted to set up a blog for the Apprentice. The good news is that we have a domain set a side for our tv blogs, so it didn’t take too long to set it up.

The reason for wanting to set up it quickly is that our friend from Germany has been visiting us and Jill wanted to set up the blog so that our friend (Mareike) could keep up to date on the Apprentice. She has been watching it and American Idol with us the last couple weeks and doesn’t get those shows in Germany.

Anyway, go check out our new Apprentice blog here.

Traffic Exchanges

March 20, 2006

I am testing out a very popular traffic system called Traffic Swarm. I have been averse to using website traffic systems in the past, because I haven’t heard good things about them from others. However, I decided it was time to try one out. I tried submitting some of our blogs to a popular blog traffic exchange program and they were rejected, because “we are no longer accepting blogs that primarily contain advertising, or promote business opportunities.” This was a bit surprising to me, but whatever.

So then I decided to try out Traffic Swarm. If I like it, I am going to consider starting my own blog traffic exchange system. I don’t really know how difficult it would be to start up a traffic exchange system, but it seems like it might be a good idea.

Anyway, I will let you know what I think about Traffic Swarm in a couple of weeks.

Busy as a Bee

March 20, 2006

I am busy as a bee this week. Last week I submitted my wife’s new American Idol Blog to a bunch of blog directories. Also, last week my wife started an LLC with her brother. Originally, I was going to be helping with the promotion of their new site, but now our roles have changed a bit, and I will also be designing the original layout of the site.

I do think that this business has a great upside, but like I said in a previous post it will probably succeed more so because of offline promotion (getting governement and industrial contracts) than website promotion. I will let you know more details about that business once contracts and so forth are finalized.

This week I will continue some work on promoting our sites and I am looking at a few other oppurtunities. Although, my primary focus will be on getting things worked out with our new business.

Oh, also I have to write this month’s website marketing newsletter. I have a great idea for my newsletter, I just have to find the time to write it.

I have a few things in the works for this blog as well, but probably won’t find the time to start working on them until next week.

All this, plus a 9-5 job and 5 kids to raise. Phew…

This week I am busy as a bee! (and liking it)

Making a Million Dollars Online With Adsense

March 17, 2006

Very interesting post on webmasterworld about someone from Canada who made 1 million dollars in 3 months from Adsense. He gives some very good advice in his posts.

You can read some excellent insight into the design of his site here.

Definitely worth checking out.
