Make Big Money Online Top

Finding Niches

Written by George Manty  · July 25, 2005

The next couple of months my main focus is on helping my wife and her friend launch their new websites and promote them. They have come up with some good ideas for niche sites that expand on their current business. Every Internet Marketing guru I have ever come across will tell you that one of the most important keys to starting a succesful online business is finding your niche.

There is no need to choose a niche with a lot of competition!

Becase there are tons of niches that currently have no competition. In fact, there are an ubelievable number of potential niche websites that haven’t even been thought of yet.

If you want to start a new business online, what I recommend is to list out the things you love doing and are good at doing. Then brainstorm niche businesses you could create from that list. For instance, say I was a big Basketball fan (I used to be). Now, let me brainstorm some ideas based on a passion for basketball:

basketball training site
basketball store
basketball training for kids
basketball news
basketball website review site
basketball clipart
basketball templates

This list is a good start, but how about I narrow the niche down. Let’s say I am a big Houston Rockets fan. I could start a Houston Rockets News Blog. I could comment on everything the Houston Rockets are doing, their games, player movement, injuries, competition, etc. Since, I love doing this anyway it will be fun and I am highly likely to continue doing it.

I know what you might be thinking, “But how do I make money off of the site?”

There are many ways to monetize a website. Once you promote it and get it noticed, then you could open an online Houston Rockets store. Another way to make money from it is you could offer paid advertising spots on the site or you could place contextual advertising like Google Adsense on it. Another possibility would be to sell special reports for fantasy basketball purposes. Maybe you could find related affiliate programs to advertise like a sports ticket outlet or basketball clothing store. Or you could use the site to promote another site, say your Houston Rockets Fantasy Sports League. There are many ways to make money from a succesful site.

The key is to find a niche that you like and that preferably doesn’t have a lot of competition. In fact, given pleny of thought you can probably come up with a niche site that has no competition. There are so many things not being done yet on the Internet. I have a bunch of ideas for projects like this, the hard part is choosing which one to do. If you wind out with several choices then choose the one that you believe you are more likely to make your the most money from in the quickest amount of time.

Anyway, I hope that helped give you some ideas on coming up with a niche site. Now, it’s time for me to go finish submiting sites to some more blog directories.

Hi George, some great thoughts here and I definaitely agree with your comments about the importance of finding a niche and then working hard to develop your blog or wbsite around that subject with quality content. Thanks also for the pointers.
