Press Release for Natural Family News

July 31, 2005

My wife’s press release was released today on PRWEB. You can see it by clicking here.

She did a really nice job writing it. I think it can serve as a good example of a press release for a new website. The day’s not over yet and her press release has been viewed 1,437 times, and PRWEB estimates that it has been picked up by 52 news outlets.

I haven’t been doing much with my busiensses lately, because my 9-5 job has been very busy. I will probably be very busy off and on with my job for the next couple of weeks. So my posts to this blog will be very sporadic. I do have a lot to share and some questions to answer, so I will try to make time for some of that this week.

Anohter thing I need to do soon for this site is to write a Press Release for it. I may have to get my wife to write it, since she did such a good job with hers.

Optimized Blog

July 29, 2005

This is just a quick update on what I have been doing business wise. I just submitted my wife’s Press Release to PRWEB. We went with the $30 option so that it get’s more exposure. I will let you know when it’s active.

Also, I recently made a few minor changes to this blog for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) purposes. So the Search Engines know what my blog is about I added a short description at the top that uses two of the keywords I am targeting as the theme of the blog “make money online” and “make money on the web“. This should help some.

I also put the link at the bottom of my site in bold italics to help the Search Engines know the words make money online that link to the main page of this site are what the focus of this site is about.

I have tons more to tell you about, including answers to some questions I have received regarding my affiliate marketing success. But, I have to get going now…

Finding Niches

July 25, 2005

The next couple of months my main focus is on helping my wife and her friend launch their new websites and promote them. They have come up with some good ideas for niche sites that expand on their current business. Every Internet Marketing guru I have ever come across will tell you that one of the most important keys to starting a succesful online business is finding your niche.

There is no need to choose a niche with a lot of competition!

Becase there are tons of niches that currently have no competition. In fact, there are an ubelievable number of potential niche websites that haven’t even been thought of yet.

If you want to start a new business online, what I recommend is to list out the things you love doing and are good at doing. Then brainstorm niche businesses you could create from that list. For instance, say I was a big Basketball fan (I used to be). Now, let me brainstorm some ideas based on a passion for basketball:

basketball training site
basketball store
basketball training for kids
basketball news
basketball website review site
basketball clipart
basketball templates

This list is a good start, but how about I narrow the niche down. Let’s say I am a big Houston Rockets fan. I could start a Houston Rockets News Blog. I could comment on everything the Houston Rockets are doing, their games, player movement, injuries, competition, etc. Since, I love doing this anyway it will be fun and I am highly likely to continue doing it.

I know what you might be thinking, “But how do I make money off of the site?”

There are many ways to monetize a website. Once you promote it and get it noticed, then you could open an online Houston Rockets store. Another way to make money from it is you could offer paid advertising spots on the site or you could place contextual advertising like Google Adsense on it. Another possibility would be to sell special reports for fantasy basketball purposes. Maybe you could find related affiliate programs to advertise like a sports ticket outlet or basketball clothing store. Or you could use the site to promote another site, say your Houston Rockets Fantasy Sports League. There are many ways to make money from a succesful site.

The key is to find a niche that you like and that preferably doesn’t have a lot of competition. In fact, given pleny of thought you can probably come up with a niche site that has no competition. There are so many things not being done yet on the Internet. I have a bunch of ideas for projects like this, the hard part is choosing which one to do. If you wind out with several choices then choose the one that you believe you are more likely to make your the most money from in the quickest amount of time.

Anyway, I hope that helped give you some ideas on coming up with a niche site. Now, it’s time for me to go finish submiting sites to some more blog directories.

Airport Brainstorming

July 24, 2005

Tonight, I picked up our eleven year old son Matthew who flew back from his trip to Washington to visit his biological father. We are very glad he is back. Anyway, I brought my Internet marketing notebook with me to the airport so I could brainstorm some things, and make a few business plans.

While I was waiting in the airport I came up with ideas for about 8 to 9 posts I want to make on this site. That was pretty good. I will be creating these posts over the next two weeks or so.

Also, while I was there I went through some old notes I took when attending various Internet marketing teleconferences. Anyway, after going through my notes I came away with some ideas and a few more things I want to write about both in this blog and in my website marketing newsletter. I feel like I made really good use of my time at the airport. I think I should spend more time doing “airport brainstorming”. In other words brainstorming when I would otherwise be doing nothing.

It’s really late again, so I need to head off to sleep. The really good thing is that tomorrow morning I will get to see Matthew when I wake up. It’s good to have him back!

Directory Submissions – Directory Lists

July 21, 2005

One of the things I have been working on a lot lately is submitting our new sites to directories. That can take a while, because there are so many directories out there, but it can help your link popularity which is important.

The other thing I will be doing is using SEOElite to take a look at the links to the top ranking sites for the keywords I am targeting. This helps me find potential link partners, directories, paid links, etc. It also gives me a good overall sense of how difficult it will be to rank for certain keywords. Check out my articles on keywords if you are more interested in keyword optimization.

As I mentioned in an earlier post I have gone through most of the links on Robin Good’s list of RSS feeds for blogs.

For those interested, here are some other good lists of directories to submit your site to:

web-inspect list of directories seo list of directories

Yahoo’s List of Web Directories

directory archives list of directories

Well, it’s pretty late again, so I will have to update you on other things I am doing at a later point in time.

Instant Sales Letters

July 20, 2005

I have been quite busy at work lately, but hopefully that is slowing down.

Tonight, I just finished making some changes to my sales letter for my website promotion book.

They were just minor changes, but I think the changes will help the overall conversion rate for the book. There are some more things in the sales copy I would like to tweak at some point in time. I based the sales letter off of one of Yanik Silver’s Instant Sales Letters. I really love that product. I see his sales letters all over the web, so either they work really well or he sells them really well or both.

I am not the greatest sales person in the world, but my wife is great at selling things. For some reason, she naturally can come up with words that sell. Since I write most of my own copy, I have found one of the bonus books called the “Ultimate Sales Letter Tool Box” too be unbelievably helpful for me in selling things. It is loaded with great words, phrases, etc. that motivate people to buy. I refer back to that book almost evertime I try to sell something.

One other thing about Yanik’s Instant Sales Letters... It is EASY to sell as an affiliate. It’s such a great product it practically sells itself. If you are in the business of Internet Marketing you should probably try selling Instant Sales Letters, because to date it’s earned me the most money of any affiliate program I market on my site. This has been a bit of a suprise, because I thought that I would earn more money from SiteSell. That has not been the case so far.

Anyway, it’s getting late. I better go get in bed now…

Affiliate Marketing

July 18, 2005

I have been real busy with my 9-5 job the past couple of days. I am a Java developer during the day and we are in a crunch time. It’s unfortunate, because I have so much that I want to tell you about.

After posting about affiliate programs, I received some questions about them. I wanted to answer some of those questions this week. Hopefully, I will get an oppurtunity to do so.

In the mean time, I wanted to let you know that the BEST affiliate book I have ever read and that I highly recommend is FREE. Yes, that’s right it is FREE. It really helped me get started making money online and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in affiliate marketing. It is the SBI Affiliate Masters Course. They just released a new version of it for 2005. So go check it out.

This book really is an excellent way to learn about Affiliate Marketing. Used in combination with my website promotion book, you can definitely make money online.

Google Adsense

July 15, 2005

I mentioned that I had come up with script code that helped me solve a problem I was having with using Google® Adsense® in blogs. You can read the article here:

I hope it proves helpful…

Is Google Adsense All You Need?

July 14, 2005

I have been fairly busy with my wife’s business this week. I wanted to talk real quickly about Google® Adsense® as a revenue stream. I do not believe you should rely on Google® Adsense® as a sole source of revenue. It can complement your business, but should not be your only source of income. I strongly believe that you should have as many revenue streams as you can reasonably manage.

I also wanted to say that so far in my business I have made more money from affiliate programs than Adsense. I personally have made the most money from being an eBay affiliate.

On the other hand, my wife and her friend’s company have made about an equal amount from Google® Adsense® and product sales. They also make a decent amount of money from affiliates.

With their news site they plan on having a new stream of income…

They will sell advertising on their website, like so many sites do these days. It is an excellent way for a high traffic site to get extra income. For some Internet entrepreneurs, it pays the bills and then some.

More about making money online to come…

Make Money Online – Where to Begin?

July 12, 2005

So, where do I begin. Well, this week I am working on helping my wife and her friend set up a new business website to complement their organic baby gift site.

The first thing I had to do was figure out what host to use. I have used several different hosts, but for my wife’s new site (and this site) we decided to go with iPowerWeb Hosting. It is actually more than sufficient for a blogging site. However, if you don’t know anything at all about web design I recommend going with a host like SiteSell’s SBI, because it is very user friendly.

After selecting a host, we had to select WordPress themes for our blogs. WordPress is the blogging software that comes with iPowerWeb and it is very easy to use. That said, I don’t recommend making changes to themes unless you know what you are doing. I know HTML and it was time consuming trying to modify themes to look the way I wanted them to. We went through several themes before deciding on the one we went with for her site. We found our themes at Alex King’s site.

My wife Jill started posting yesterday on her and her friend Laura’s new blog called, Natural Family News.

Jill has sent out her new site information to some friends and I have started submitting her site to this long list of places (over 100) you can submit your blog and/or RSS feed to.

Well, it is getting late so I need to call it a night. Tomorrow, I plan on letting you know how I am integrating Google® Adsense® into our blogs and how much money her site has made in the first couple of days. Over the next several months, I plan on letting you know how much money this site makes online as well.
